Back in the States after a holiday in Scotland

Posted by: Bart on 05 July 2016

This was my first trip to Scotland, and really enjoyed it.  St. Andrews for University graduation, then a driving tour over several days (my wife did the driving on the "wrong" side of the road; I was the sat nav operator) to Arbroath (smokie for lunch), Aberdeen, across to Elgin and Rothes, to Inverness, down thru the Lochs to Oban, and then over to Edinburgh.  Toured a couple of distilleries (missed our appointment at Macallan as the road flooded and we could not get there; flood abatement work has not been fully successful).  People were so very friendly, the countryside is beautiful.  The weather behaved pretty well considering . . . it's Scotland!

We were in a cute little hotel in Rothes for Brexit vote day and were glued to BBC 1.

Brought home a few bottles of whisky (from the Gordon & Macphail shop in Elgin) and a relatively inexpensive Harris Tweed jacket.

Scotland's a lovely place Bart, so glad you enjoyed it. Hope you didn't get too bitten by the midges!

Glad you enjoyed my native land Bart...You passed me by on your travels.

A fresh smokie is hard to beat...

Mmmm! Smokies!

These smokies were SO fresh.  We stopped in a little shop near the water in Arbroath and they had just come out of the kiln . . . or oven . . . or whatever those Scots call the smoker  The nice lady in the shop brought us to the back so we could see.  We ate quite a bit of smoked salmon this trip, too, as it happened.

Thanks!  She's home for a little bit, then off to Korea for a year's stint at teaching English there.  That'll give her some time to ponder graduate school, "what's next," etc.

I'll post a photograph of what I suspect is that very kiln Bart.

I'll pull one off of the card (that's still in my camera) as well.
