Hi,
I'm sure this has been covered several times, but a search has not revealed the answer I'm looking for.
Basically, I'm looking to add individual artists to ripped compilations, where the tracks are shown correctly, whilst the performers are listed simply as "Various Artists"
The rips are all carried out using a Naim HDX to NAS, and are therefore in WAV format.
I'm controlling replay with the Naim app on an iPad, which has both the app and n-Serve installed.
Additionally, I have n-Serve installed on my MacBook, but nowhere can I find an "edit" function to re-name each track.
Both apps will allow me to edit the artist for the complete album, rather than track by track.
What am I missing?

Hi Dave, There isn't a way to do this unfortunately.
My work around is to leave the artist as Various Artists, but then to add the Artist in the Song Title line.
So for example you might get instead of
Artist: Various Artists. Track: Kashmir
This instead:
Artist: Various Artists. Track: Led Zeppelin - Kashmir, which you can then see when you are looking in the Naim App.
Its not perfect, just a workaround, but that's the best I've come up with in my case (Unitiserve=>NDX). Luckily I don't have too many compilations, and I've renamed them all a while ago!
Hope this helps.
Chris

The other possible thing (and I am not sure it works with every software) is to get a program like mp3tag, and leave the Artist tag as "Various Artists" and then in the Album Artist tag field put the actual artist name. (Or you could do it the other way around as well.)
This approach has also served me well on classical albums, where I can put the conductor/orchestra in one, and the composer in the other - in the Squeezebox software it just meant I had two indexes by which to access the piece. It was possible because the Squeezebox app gave equal weight to Artist & Album Artist.
Not sure if the Naim app references the Album Artist tag or not.
In this method under Various Artists the entire album will appear, but of it is a compilation from say the 70's, accessing through the other tag means you will see that album as one under that artist, but only the song(s) by that artist on that album will be listed.

If you are using nServe with Naim rips ripped and played by a Naim server, you can't do any of that. With Asset or Minim on a NAS, you can.

If your NAS is capable of running stuff like minimserver, it might be worth trying it, and using something like mp3tag or equivalent to sort tags out. I used to do what ChrisH suggests, but much prefer it how I have it now.
Just to show what you can do with minim server, here's what I do for compilations, with 'album artist' tag set to Various, and artist tag set to whoever did the song:
