CD5Si Transport trouble

Posted by: PC58 on 12 July 2016

Hi, I've had my Nait CD 5Si since 2013 and this is the second time it's been with Creative Audio for the transport sorting out in the last six months. Has anyone else had similar trouble with skipping and jumping and generally sounding like a bag of spanners when you turn it on and the transport fires up. Cheesed off to say the least. I bought british!

Strangely I've had similar trouble with my nearly 8 yo CDX2 over the weekend. Out of the blue (as these things usually are) she started skipping mid track and sometimes stopping all together. Then it wouldn't read the TOC on any disc. It wouldn't play the first track so I'd have to select the second for it to play anything. Then a couple of tracks later....nothing but the dreaded ERR on screen. So, it sounds like my laser mech is on its way out.....

Except tonight, after leaving it switched on as always, she is singing like a bird again. Plays every disc I try without a hiccup. Sounds as good as ever!

Hate to say it, chaps, but I think it's just damned bad luck. I had a s/h 2009 CD5i until last year and it never exhibited any such problems - in fact it would sometimes play discs fine that skipped on cheaper machines.

Since then, I've upgraded to a s/h 2003 CDX2 which has also been very well-behaved (despite my misgivings about buying a machine with such an old transport), apart from refusing to play a handful of discs. When I asked my dealer, his suggestion of a thin strip of masking tape around the central hole in the CD has worked wonders for almost zero cost.

Maybe I was born under a lucky star.
