UQ2 Power off

Posted by: Vilya on 13 July 2016

Hello to all

That it's my first post and from Spain so sorry for my english.

I have a UQ2 and i can not power off with the remote, only with the rear on/off switch.

UQ2 always is hot but these is not a real problem, the real problem is that the HDD 500 gb. conected to frontal USB is always on.

Any suggestions?

The USB port isn't really designed for taking a large HDD, rather a USB stick or similar.

The UQ2 only has a proper power switch. Like most Naim kit, it is designed to left powered up at all times. I tend to mute the UQ2 when not using it, only doing a hard power-down if I'm away for more than a day or so.

Muy buenas Vilya,

Wellcome to the forum!!

As Richard said, the UQ2 has no power off button. It must be always on. I guess that a great idea will be to use an external SSD (in fact I am thinking in apply this solution to my Superuniti).

Any comment about the use of a SSD?

Do NOT connect large storage devices to the USB ports of any Naim streamers.

Like the rest of the streamers and the Uniti range, UnitiQute is designed to stream via a wired network (back up via wireless).

Well I'm getting rather old and my memory is not what it once was but I am pretty sure that the UQ2 does in fact have a power off switch.  Personally, as RIchard says, I never used it and left the UQ2 powered up at all times and on mute on an unused input when I wasn't listening to it.

Many thanks to all

I know that Naim streamers are not specifically designed to support HDD but it is a intermediate solution between an usb stick and a NAS system (at least for me) so why no use it?

Javi A,

I have not experience about SSD,  with my HDD i had to do a low level format (fat 32) to make it work.

I mean that there is no power switch on the front. The one in the back of the UQ2 is just for switch it off for making connections or changing cables.

I have no experince with SSD on the Naim but from the user point of view it works as a regular HDD, in terms of formating.

I leave mine on all the time but have set the display to turn off after only a short period.

If you leave the display on all the time - are the Naim display likely to see screen burn?
