Rega Aphelion with Aria

Posted by: Adam Zielinski on 13 July 2016

An odd question, given it's a Naim forum...

Is anyone using Rega's Aphelion with Rega's Aria? If so, what settings are you using for the Aria?

There is precious little (or actually none whatsoever that I could find) info on recommended setting for this new cartridge.

By the by: my RP10 never sounded so good, as with the Aphelion... makes for a wonderful pairing with 252

Hi Adam

Sidetrack... Did you compare RP10 to RP8 prior to purchase?

thanks

Hi Mark

No - I didn't. Went from RP6 with Exact II, straight to RP10.
The only comparison I can offer is between Apheta and Aphelion, mounted on my RP10.

Cheers,

Adam

I will try to to brief

Apheta is a fantastic cartridge. It's a rhytmic powerhouse, but it seems to impose it's way of music reproduction - very sharp and fast.

Aphelion... - it completely gets out of the way and seems to faithfully reproduce what an artist put on the record. It has that fluidity...

We only played with the Aphelion for a short while (a few days) but my recollection is that it had the same settings as the Apheta. I could be wrong though. Incidentally, if you want an upgrade to the Aria, that new Cyrus Signature is very good!

Mark, the difference between 10 and 8? I could live with a 10.

Frank.

I d strongly  advice the original  iOS or the newer even before goin from apheta onwards.

much better upgrade than staying with aria.

Antonio - I was thinking about iOS too. A bit on an expensive side - is it worth it?

The IOS Reference is in another league from most other phono stages. However, I disagree with Antonio about the original IOS. Although worthy, it just didn't grab you in the way that the Aria and IOS Ref do. It was just a bit clinical, or matter of fact.

The IOS Ref is the same circuit, but Mr. Bateman changed a few values of some of the components, cleaned the environment with that crazy heavy chassis and casework, and sprinkled some magic fairy dust over it to make a truly world class product...

Frank - I really didn't want to read this

Luckily, for now I have no space on my rack to fit a full-width component. Aria and RP10's PSU sit alongside each other - there is a certain easthetic to their matching cases.

But the iOS Ref seed has been planted...

In all fairness demoed both in Two very different set-up.

iOS in a very special one.

but can T help feeling the aria grabbed more my attention in analyzing in hifI termS, the other was simplY so natural ,as i reckon only do great electrmnics.

Antonio, in fairness it could simply be that you prefer a less emphatic delivery.

Adam, sorry, hehehehe...seriously, don't listen to it unless you are SURE you can afford it.
