Converting flac to mp3 for mobile use

Posted by: Honeyquince on 14 July 2016

Hi,

I'm about to embark on a long trip and would like to take my flac library with me as mp3 files on my mobile. Does anyone know of software that could do this conversion for me. I did a quick search on the forum but I could only find relatively old posts and subsequently dead links to software.

Many thanks,

Robert

Yep, dbpoweramp (MP3 converter) is a great program that is reliable and effective.

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the reply. I used dbpoweramp to rip my CD's and will look into the MP3 convertor.

dbPoweramp for Windows, XLD for OS X.  I'd go ahead and do max compression, to save room on your mobile for more music.

Another option could be to buy a proper audiophile device and just copy over the files without loss of quality and without a lot of work, options enough....

For the car? Or for playing through a little portable 3 inch USB speaker-thingy?? MP3's are fine for these applications IMHO (unless youre driving a Naim equipped Bently).

I use a USB stick with WAVs in my car and it sounds pretty decent. I tried a few MP3s out of curiosity, and they sounded dull, flat and lifeless. (I don't have a Bentley!)

Many thanks for all the replies. The main use is to ease the boredom of a long flight. Unfortunately finances mean that I'm limited to using my mobile phone but at least that means there's one less gadget to carry and to charge.

I may try and convince my daughter that she really does want to let me use her macbook to try out xACT!

Many thanks again!
