Fiio X3 ii portable hi res player/dac

Posted by: dayjay on 20 July 2016

With impeccable timing the family and I are due to fly to Turkey on holiday a week on Monday. The last time I went to lovely Turkey I attempted to use my phone as a music player and it promptly overheated next to the pool and so I have opted to leave my expensive phone somewhere a little cooler this time and purchase a dedicated music player.  After reading a shed load of reviews I opted for a Fiio X3 ii which was cheap enough at £150 that I don't mind paying for it whilst having pretty good reviews.  After adding a 64g card I've spent the last couple of days slowly filling it up and am listening to it as I type.  For such a cheap device the sound is excellent with my Meze 99 headphones, way better than my Galaxy S7 Edge, and its very easy to use.  On the plus side it can also be used as a dac for a phone or laptop etc.  Pretty good value for money for such a cheap device and highly recommended.

Can you get travel insurance for Turkey?

With a tumbling currency perhaps self insurance is an option.

I also use a Fiio X3ii and like it.

My only gripe is about accessing tracks, artists etc - the turning wheel doesn't have that same apple functionality that iPods have where it speeds up as you scroll through, so it can take a while. I can live with it but one friend ditched his X5 for that reason.

Make sure you update to the latest firmware via the website - the latest version seems to be more accurate in finding tracks when you've uploaded them and listing them in the right order.

Generally I used the insurance I get through my bank and I haven't heard anything from them to say otherwise.  I have friends who are over there now and, in the resorts, there has been no impact other than low visitor numbers which is a shame.  I was over there when the gulf war was on and it was empty despite several hundred miles distance

Have you tried the fiio with your hugo?.  Was looking at the fiio myself to use alongside my hugo when on the go and for an upcoming holiday to the US. Is the 64gig card it's max storage capacity and would it connect easily enough to the hugo?.

I've not tried it yet with the Hugo but it will connect easily enough though.  If I get a chance before we go away I'll give it a try.  The max capacity for the card is 128g

Deejay don't worry about it, it is all calm here.

X3 is a great machine, Meze is looking very cool, just one thing that you may have warm ears at the poolside.....

Whatever you do, don’t play 2112.

In the current situation, just imagine the reaction to.
