NAC N372

I was curious if there were any insiders on here that had a hunch if Naim was planning on releasing a new 2 box pre-amp streaming to replace the N272?
Harry - I like that idea and I could imagine owning one, especially if it comes with a FM/DAB module.
Let's wait and see what our beloved Naim has in store for us.

Yes, let's wait and see, Banannahead & Simon appears to be on point:
""I think that it's funny that people think that a 372 would be a replacement to a 272. Have Naim ever had such a policy? Replacing a new product so quickly with a model with a different model number.""
"" I still think the preference will be for physical decoupling.. which is after all is the ultimate preffered way of Naim for best SQ,..""
The 4 box wonder:
272--+Xps--+250--+Fraim
The Hugo is mobile.

I don't get the appeal of a dab/fm module on a 5-6k streamer, with Internet radio and tidal, 2tb nas etc. What am I missing? Only person I know that still listens radio at home is my 83 year old grandma. I remember the days I used to tape music from the only weekly rock program, 45 minutes of low quality hisssing analog piracy!

I think it depends on where you are. You need to cover your bases product-wise where radio is concerned. Some countries (most in fact) have no DAB, some have already phased out FM, and others like where I am have no DAB and internet radio is limited to a measly 64Kbps for all domestic stations leaving FM as the only viable option. So you either provide for all 3 or none at all.

I have a powerful roof arial (FM and DAB). Radio reception is exceptionally good where I live - DAB is of very high quality.

I'm under 40 and listen to the radio all the time, certainly daily. As it happens I couldn't afford a 6k streamer, but if I could, I'd be pleased if it included real radio.
I hope there is no 372 coming, because the day it comes out my 272 will become un-listenable.
I'm holding out for the 572...
Hungryhalibut posted:In my view a 372 or equivalent is a virtual certainty. I expect that if it follows previous product structures it will have no power supply and be able to use both outputs from the 555PS, as well as the XPS2 and XP5XS.
If I was in your position and thinking to a place beyond the 272, I'd go for the 555PS now, and swap to the 372 if it appears. In the meantime, you'll be getting the best from the 272.
Incidentally, I expect the likelihood of it needing an external DAC to be approximately nil.
I'm currently N272/300DR/Super Lumina and have put off a PS purchase till further notice, since I'm at the upper limit in the Classic series does a 500 series PS make sense if when and they do release a N372 since even the case work is unique, or even it's own PS like the NAC552PS/300PS
I wonder what would be the point of an integrated receiver (such as 372) without FM/DAB but on the other hand I quite often feel too old for the current world… (and eventually there will only be internet broadcast available if even that).
My point is, this will be/could be an expensive streamer with internet connection, isnt it like needing a floopy drive for your brand new mac pro ? You may like your floopy drive and find it usefull but then probably you are not the guy who will buy top spec mac pro.
İ listen radio in my car but not at home when i have tidal, 2tb music and many cd/lp. Not evem for background music.
Offcourse they are still puting scart connection to a top of the line 75lcds with a 5k+ price tag, İ dont get it either
with all respect to radio fans out there, radio gaga it
When I sold my Qute and replaced it with a Mac I was surprised how much I missed being able to listen to FM radio and as a result bought a NAT05XS. I don't use it all the time but I like it being there and it gives something other sources can't. Happy to live without dab though which I dislike

No - it's not. Just becasue you don't listen to a radio at home, it does not mean other people cannot. That is why the FM/DAB module is optional on ND5XS, NDX amd N272.

Using a bare 272 with a 300, the Sopras and SL leads is just daft. You are missing out on so much quality you wouldn't believe it. The 555PS can be supplied in a standard case - it doesn't have to be the brushed finish to match the CD555.
How about NDS? Thus my point![]()
it is not about listening radio or not, you may like am radio as far i concern, or send telegrams from your iphone6 via an app
İt is about radio on a 372 streamer....

yes I know shameful but with the talk of a N372 I put the PS on hold until further noticed since to me it's cheaper to spend the money up front instead of 2-3 upgrades to get what you really want in the end.I was told by North American distributor that Sopras were voiced with the 300DR and the final listening done with the Statement
I did not know that the 500 series casework came standard finish with brushed finish as an option or I'm wrong?

In my opinion NDS cannot be considered as integrated device (which I believe 372 will be). If separates are the aim the solution would be a dedicated FM receiver…

Yes - it's actually cheaper that way.

I agree, that's a fine rear end you have.
I would imagine, quite a few gents running
552/552PS with that rear end, and we'll balanced it is!
Just my two cents.

I do not see it listed it's an option, or maybe only a EU option

I have and never interested in the 500 series I'm looking for a ultimate 4 box system

Don't think so - price diff in Europe is around USD 500 - the classic brushed case is cheaper. Just ask your dealer.

They can't even get the picture of the 272 right, so you can hardly expect them to show the prices of the two finishes for the 555PS. Never mind what the site says, the 555PS is available in fully brushed (to match theCD555) and standard finishes. The latter is cheaper.

N372
PS ????
300DR
SL Loom
equals the ultimate 4 box system when Naim releases if they ever do so
Just to be clear, 500 level stuff does not come with optional casework, just the 555PS because it has so many other than 500 level applications. The powder coat sleeve is a fair bit cheaper. Tom Tom have the latest UK price list for download.
