NAC N372

I was curious if there were any insiders on here that had a hunch if Naim was planning on releasing a new 2 box pre-amp streaming to replace the N272?

PeteBut in a still young and developing field it takes a lot more effort to try to get ahead, let alone stay there.
But digital is not young any more - home streaming was perhaps young 18 years ago when I first dabbled - but not now... very established and mature hence the plethora of variants that comes with a mature market to encourage differentiation. Minidisc could have come and gone a few times over in that timeline

I was thinking of streaming, rather than digital per se - while DACs are still developing in significant steps, rather than the relatively minor steps that tend to characterise a mature technology, though in reality with DACs it is perhaps more a matter of mainly small steps then the occasional bigger breakthrough.
Fair point in terms of development - but I don't think it would be accurate to call the DAC field young - but agree its definitely evolving as new technology enables what was only theoretically possible before or required considerable expense.

The 372 will be a revolutionary product in naim's history, acting as the main hub of a HiFi or home cinema system. It will provide full integration of a dedicated (external) naim streamer, naim DAC, and naim preamp, providing unprecedented component flexibility and future-proofing with this electrically totally transparent and PSU-less design.
I hear the 372 is designed in California. Made by Foxcon in Shenzen. And is kissed by 1000 certified spiritual gurus as it leaves the factory. On the back plate below the serial number it reads "all other products shall sound broken in comparison".
The forum will be updated to cope with the anticipated gushing that shall go on for 12 months following the release.

Home streaming has been around for a very long time, it just hasn't been mainstream. I was streaming video and music using a Pinnacle ShowCentre as long ago as the late 90s/early 00s and, although it was a bit clunky and slow by modern standards, it worked pretty well using its own software running on a PC to the device which was connect through a network anywhere in the house. Probably the reason I bought my Qute2 was to replicate what I had previously had in terms of convenience but with improved sound. Apart from not having to use proprietary server software and being a little quicker and more robust I'm not so sure things have moved on hugely in terms of the technology
