Naim 250 DR Upgrade sticker - anyone able to post image?
Posted by: blag on 27 July 2016
I don't seem to be making much headway in verifying whether my recently-purchased naim NAP 250DR has a genuine 'DR' sticker on it.
The closest I have got so far is that it looks as if might have been upgraded by naim's distributor in Spain.
To end any doubts, can anyone, please, be so kind as to post an image of the rear of an 'upgraded' 250 DR so that I can compare?
The rear of my amp is pretty inaccessible and space is limited so cannot post an image. I've carefully dressed all the cables, which makes moving the unit a real pain. But, with the aid of a mirror on a stick I can see the rear of the amp!!
Thanks in advance.
Why not just email naim with the S/no.?
Edit: sorry, just seen the bit about Spanish distributor. Even so, Naim may have records of their work...

Aha! I should have stated this in my post, but...
I have contacted naim, but because they do not have data from the Spanish distributor, they cannot confirm that the unit was actually upgraded. I did not buy through a naim dealer. I suppose my concern is that the little sticker I can see could easily be copied by an unscrupulous individual. All that naim can confirm for definite is that they issue these stickers to naim distributors only.
I have tried to get more info but after a week of emails, and even a formal letter to Salisbury, I am not a great deal further forward, hence my post here.
Ok. My first thought on seeing your thread was that Naim may not want images of their potentially valuable DR upgrade sitickers 'out there'. Hence my reply.

Exactly the same though occurred to me... But if there is a chance they will be easily copied, then they're not really a reliable indicator. (Of course I realise that there is very little that cannot be 'cloned' these days)
Do you sense my anxiety? Have I really bought what I paid for?
I definitely sense it. Hope it works out for you.

Why not just ask Naim's distributor for Spain? If anyone should know for sure it'll be them.
Maybe the only way is to have a "competent" person remove the cover and have a look inside.
There's plenty of pics of the internal differences online.
If I cannot get a pic of the stocker, perhaps the

Perhaps this might be the best way, but it's a right nuisance having to unhook everything and lug it down to the nearest sort-of-competent guy to figure out how to open the box. Maybe that's a better line of research: 'how to open naim 250.2 box'... Thanks.

Indeed, this may be worth a try. Unfortunately I have not received confirmation from naim that the original unit was shipped to Spain, merely reference to the work probably having been done in Spain!! Could be a wild goose chase. I would have thought that naim would protect their customers' interests slightly less casually, but there's no point in griping. I just want an answer.
This sounds a bit disappointing; don't Naim keep a record of who they sell the DR bits to? And it is was done by the Spanish distributor, they should know, shouldn't they?
A simple question is if the distributor is allowed to do these upgrades. As I understand it only very few places outside the UK are authorized to do this. If they cannot keep track of the units they upgrade it is not a good sign of the quality of the work they are doing.

I can send you a photo of the DR stickers added to my 555 and HighCap if that helps! I had those Dr'ed here in the States.

That would be really, really appreciated. I am not sure to how to go about Private Messaging, but maybe that is the best way to send stuff - if you know how to do it, that is.

Actually, it seems that the PM 'feature' was disabled ago, i think...

I'll try to remember when I'm home later to take the photos and just post here.

Claus, I believe that the distributor's service facility is trained and authorised to do DR updates.
So, to the OP, please, rather than encourage unhelpful speculation here, your best course of action is to contact the distributor and take things from there.

Many, many thanks. My sticker looks identical. If you're following this thread you will also read that I contacted the Spanish distributor and have confirmation that they DR'ed the 250!!

Contacted the distributor - as per your suggestion - once naim had confirmed that it was originally shipped there. Confirmation that the 250 was upgraded by them. All is well!!

You can rest well now Richard.
Does a factory Upgraded DR unit have the same little DR sticker or is the rear sticker the same as a new dr unit?
My 250DR (new in January) has the DR logo printed on the rear, wheras my HiCap (serviced and DR'd last October) has the sticker.
