Fraim - mixing standard and extended shelves
Posted by: Aric on 28 July 2016
Looking for confirmation that a single Fraim stack of: Base > Medium > Standard (x4) would be okay?
Currently have Base > Medium > Standard (x3) with majority of weight (components wise) on the Base and Medium level. Super light at top with RP8 skeletal TT on top level and below that, CD5XS.
Thanks

Laughs...not going to that extreme.
Considering slipping 1 NAP250dr into the mix because of all the raving going on. But I don't have space for a separate stack, so can only proceed forward with this crazy idea of disembarking from my active ATC's if one more standard shelf isn't committing a grave Fraim-sin!

Once I read that Fraimlite could be upgrade to reference Fraim, I pulled the Trigger, also I noticed a Seminar mixed Fraim & Fraim lite, and defended his case with technical issues, but in any event, I file away, valuable information, when I run across it!
""The maximum safe load for each fraim or fraimlite shelf is 110 lbs (50kg) evenly distributed. The maximum load for any single fraim or fraimlite assembly is 198lbs (90 kg). Do not exceed these loads.""
Typo, I think it's not to exceed 6 levels, I will find it!
Don't ask me, where I got it from. But, the logical place to start, would be Fraim's manual!
Hope that was helpful!
Enjoy your music, the why!

The maximum number of levels for fraim or fraimlite, excluding the base is 6, when standard uprights are used and two when extended uprights are used. Do not exceed these limits.
Allante93,
Yes, I read that, but in other threads it's indicated that if only one extended upright is used, increasing to 3 standards is okay. So i'm wondering if a 4th would be detrimental to the music, particularly in context with using a medium versus extended upright (although maybe that doesn't matter)?
Thanks

I know this is from the manual, but reading this I could surmise that I could have a Base > Extended shelf > Extended shelf Fraim but that would be it. Or a Base > Extended shelf > Standard Shelf and that would be it, but I don't think that's the intent behind the advice. I think what they mean by the passage is if you use an Extended upright, do not use more than an additional 2 standard uprights (excluding the base) in combination. So in other words, if using either a medium or extended upright, ensure your Fraim does not exceed 4 total shelves.
When I first got my five shelves, I played around a bit and could discern no audible difference between loading 2 or 3 standard shelves atop the Medium upright.

Perhaps, you can contact them, to make sure what they mean, after all, it's your beloved Naim Gear, and from my experience They are more than happy to answer any of your questions.
Good Luck!
It looks like the Gentle who got that massive, over the limit system surmised something different also! LOL.....
Enjoy your Music!

And there was me (re photo) wondering whether a slightly naughty seventh standard level (overall weight staying the same bar the extra shelf would be problematic...
I'm amazed this picture has been up for over 5 hours now and no one has mentioned the stacking order... ![]()
Thank god the 500's are on the bottom. I'd fear fo rmy life otherwise. Actually I probably would anyway.

Well you gotta be able to place a CD into the tray. Think how tedious a step ladder would be!
Suggest a small cherry picker might be useful....

If the owner can afford that lot, surely they could a decent sized place to house it properly? That lot needs 2 stacks minimum!
No point in having that fraim. Most naim boxes are stacked directly on top of each other.

Seem to remember when this was originally posted. There was a suggestion that it might be Roy George's office. ![]()
That crucifix will come in handy for the owners burial...

I' m pretty sure to have a clue of who and where it is, if you want more deatails you can p.m. me
Saying that stacking up a system like that it's a sacrilege, it's quite a sort of understatement.
