I think the reference (not mine)to excluding sports that have to be judged was in relation to where the decision on score is inherently a matter of a judgement, as oppose to fastest, longest, highest etc , not judgement on possible infringements. That of course would exclude all gymnastics, diving, etc.

Yep, that's the essence of it. Judgement in enforcing the rules is sometimes necessary in all sports, but those that rely solely on judging to decide the winner aren't my favourites.

I suppose it is a bit like piano competitions, or the BBC Young Musician of the Year.

Who knew that showjumping and hockey could be so thrilling?

And hockey. Well done Ladies

The more I watch other team sports (rugby, hockey and many others) the less respect I have for the prima donna's of the footballing world.

Anyone know why the diving pool suddenly looks like an Olympic diving pool rather than the glacial pond it resembled during the first week of competition?

...........or Strictly Come Da...........................

The thing is, if olympic sports can include virtually every team game under the sun, golf, wind-based watersports, dancing with ribbons, dancing horses, fighting, shooting etc as it does now, why on earth should it not include piano competitions, darts, tiddlywinks, poker, skydiving and, yes, strictly come dancing?

I have a recollection that some of these options were considered this year, eg poker, and the IOC explained their decision, fairly lucidly. But I can't recall their reasoning.

Mo. What a legend. Give that man a knighthood.

Posted on: 20 August 2016 by joerand

Allyson Felix; commanding anchor leg for the US in the women's 4x400. Her sixth Olympic gold and a class act.

Kudos to the US men in the 4x400 as well and have to tip my cap to Matt Centrowitz in the 1500 - strategy versus speed in that race.

How can they not now? Superb, unbelievable athlete, and a credit to his country and his religion.

What country Is that then TONY,Somalia or America.

Mo's British. You haven't got to go too far back in your own family tree to see you're from other places. SCOOOT.

By all means award Farah a Knighthood for his 'skill' in running long distance, but then remove it for those damnable Quorn adverts and attempts at speaking.

Sorry Nick, don't watch adverts so I haven't a clue what you're on about. Having done some running in the distant past, I can assure you that, in addition to the awesome levels of fitness required, there certainly is a considerable tactical skill in competing sucessfully in these events.

Looks like China can no longer exceed or even equal the UK in the medal table - based on the usual ranking by Gold, then Silver, then Bronze.

Well done Team GB.

Well done team GB a great result (at a price),  most diverse wins of any country, 15 different events.

Shame Brazil didn't spend some of the opening and closing ceremony money on the Paralympics.

I can't understand the need for 3 or 4 hours of this.

I really can't stomach the opening or closing ceremonies so I don't bother watching them. Probably fun for the athletes though.

I used to enjoy when they ran the men's marathon finish into the stadium to start the closing ceremonies. Now that's gone.
