Sky HD / PS3 via NDX/nDAC

Posted by: Dingding on 10 July 2011

I have a problem when watching sky HD and blue ray disc on my PS3 when using the NDX.
My sky is connected via coax & my PS3 is connected via optical in the back on my NDX they work perfectly but as soon as I switch to a HD channel I just get very loud digital sound. I have tried all settings but they just won't play ball.  Any one got any ideas?
I love a idea of having all controls for the system in one place so I don't fancy going back to analogue .

Thanks in advance guys.

You need to change the output settings in both your Sky box and PS3.

I don't have Sky, so if I remember right; Go to settings, then sound page. You need to change the output from Dolby Digital to PCM/Stereo.

Same with the PS3, under sound settings, set output as optical, but do not select DD or DTS, just highlight the stereo options.

At the minute you're sending a surround bitstream to a stereo DAC, which it cannot decode, hence the noise.

Many thanks for your reply, I have just checked my setting and that's what they are both set too, sadly still not working.

Hi Dingding -

Assuming you have those digital inputs enabled on the NDX, they should be able to decode a PCM signal up to 24/192 from your PS3 and cable box.

Might be worth a try changing the NDX digital input's "Unstable source" setting to "yes".

PS3 has an option "BD/DVD Audio Format (Optical)" under "Video Settings".

That should be set as "Linear PCM" as otherwise PS3 sends audio in DD/DTS format and that will not fly with NDX/nDAC.
