Plasma screen burn

Posted by: Sister E. on 12 July 2011

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of changing my 10 year old CRT television. I prefer the more natural image quality of a plasma but I'm still hearing horror stories about image retention and screen burn.  I only watch movies, sport and news on television.  I don't play computer games or use the screen as a PC monitor.  I was wondering whether any people here who have plasmas have had any problems with their sets in this regard,

Thanks ,

I've had a Pioneer plasma for a good 4+ years.

No screen burn for me.

BUT I don't play video games and the screen is in a fairly darkend room so it's being driven very gently as far as contrast/brightness levels go.

From what I understand, you'd have to literally abuse the screen to have any obvious or lasting burn images.

I have had panasonic plasmas for 6 years with no problems. A 480p panasonic 42inch hosts wii and is great.

Well, Pioneer plasma 42" here and no problems after 3 years. Includes leaving recording paused to fix meals etc. That is at high contrast in a well lit room. Pioneer tech has been acquired by Panasonic so wouldn't anticipate any issues.

Like the other posts I've had my pioneer Kuro for 3 and a bit years with no issues. The screens come with a clean program that if you run at least once a year it will solve any possibility of burn in unless you abuse the screen.

When I purchased the screen I was concerned about what effect DOGs would have (digital on graphics) the annoying logos the tv companies use to tell you what channel you are watching as if you didn't know but I am happy to report they have not caused any problems.

So buy the plasma and enjoy.

Many thanks.  Looks like it will be all right.  Just watching the golf and wondering whether that static bright yellow leader board logo end would have any effect after several hours watching,
