Mu-So Qb with USB Source

Posted by: Bodger on 16 August 2016

All, I had a quick search to solve my problem but the closest posts concerned playlists from a USB stick. I just got a Qb and plugged an external HDD full of WAV files in the USB port. Changed the source to USB, got the play/pause icons on the Qb display - no music. My WAV files are all in one directory on the HDD. DO they need to be in the top level? Does the Qb handle WAV? Any suggestions welcome.

I don't think it will work - the USB is for an iPod etc. You need to stream to the Qb over the network.

You might be correct but the Naim manual states "Play music from your iDevice and other MP3 players and USB sticks." I tried a USB stick also and got no sound.

Try moving a few tracks to top level and see if it works.

Is it possible the Hard Disk needs power and it is not getting it from the Qb slot?

Is your USB stick formatted in FAT?

Since the Mu-so plays from USBs - regardless of level as the app sees the file structure of the stick - it seems bizarre that the Qb won't.

The App on my iPad looks nothing like the screen captures in the manual. I am going to restore and reinstall everything and try again later.

Late to this party .. but .. I use a USB stick, formatted in FAT, and plug it in to the QB at our holiday home .. works fine.  The files displayed via the iOS app aren't particularly pretty but they function the same as on my main system .. that's Asset on a NAS.

I'm not sure "works fine" is the correct term

On my Mu-So, it will only play from a USB stick formatted in FAT, it will not play from playlists on a USB stick and it will not play tracks from a USB sticks in shuffle mode - I'd call that "barely works"...

Juanito:  I stand corrected .. I have never adopted the habit of using playlists so I should have said:  "Works fine for me".

You should be able to play WAV files from a USB stick and as someone says above you should be able to see the file structure on the USB stick and then select any track you can see. My experience is from copying files in various formats (including WAV) from iTunes on a Mac and then using the USB stick in a Muso. I understand the Muso and the QB use the same software so what works with one should work with the other. I have not tried an external hard drive and if you can get it to work I would be very interested as it would be a good option for our circumstances.

My MuSo will play files from an external USB hard drive, but it's a recent one, which probably doesn't draw much current from the USB connection.

Older external USB HD might not work if the MuSo cannot supply enough current through the USB port.
