Deleted Files On Unitiserve
Posted by: Daveas on 19 August 2016
I have just noticed that several tracks deleted from the Unitiserve are still in the MQ folder. All the affected tracks are where I have manually split and renamed CDs with 2 albums on them. They are shown as normal under artist name/album name/track name.WAV.DEL. The 'good' versions of the tracks are still there (without the .DEL suffix, and play normally. The recycle bin is empty. Other than disk space, is this a problem or should I just ignore it? Thanks
This may just be that the US needs to rescan (to align its index with what files are actually there). As long as you deleted them "properly", with nserve or the Windows DTC, it will probably sort itself out on its own. I would forget about it for a few days..

Thanks David, I deleted the files using DTC a few weeks ago but just noticed that they were still there.
That shouldn't happen...
Have you tried the nServe app? Somehow it's a little bit better at managinging the basic functions.
Thanks Adam but I suspect the app will delete the 'good' tracks that I want to keep.
Dave...
I use US SSD, so a little bit different. All files reside on a NAS. However UnitServe still treats them all as a 'Store' irrespective of a physical location, so in that respect both US are the same.
I do remember one occasion, when I had to delete a CD rip in order to replace it with a High-res download. It took me, if I remember correctly, around 3 attempts to remove the CD rip. All I did was remove it using an nServe app:
Artis > Album > click on EDIT in the top right hand corner > click on the red DELETE button at the bottom, left.
This worked.

Did you empty the recycle bin also. Deleted files are only moved there at first, so the files are most likely not touched before the recycle bin is emptyed.
I'd suggest doing a rescan and see if they disappear.
DTC is not a problem. However delete only means moving files to the recycle bin, and removing them from the view. It may be so that the files are still visible when browsing the folders from a pc or mac. I have never checked this just also removed the files from the recycle bin.
I have certainly had the reverse problem where I have added files to the diwnload folder in the US and can see them with windows explorer but the DTC and nserve for IOS both deny their existence. As HH says, and my original answer to the OP's question also mentioned, a rescan should fix it.
But the OP says it has been several weeks and one would have expected the US to rescan itself in that time, so it is a bit odd.

Thanks for the suggestions. The recycle bin is empty and I have tried rescanning (power off/on seems to be the only way to do this with US) but to no avail. I guess I'll either have to put up with it or try deleting and re ripping the albums concerned.

There is a re-scan function - available via a PC / MAC application only.
You need to identify a share you want to re-scan and on the right-hand side there should be small icons. One of them performs a re-scan.
I'm familiar with the rescan for Network shares using DTC but the US is shown as a store and I can't find a rescan option. Doesn't appear to be on GUI either. Is ther another PC application?
But if you want to delete files from a store disk on the unit you have to find a hack into the OS.
Dave - my UnitiServe is SSD and it's off to Naim for some TLC. So I was writing from memory... apologies - I seem to have created a confusion.
There is no other PC-bases app to manage Naim servers. There ia only a Mac or Windows version.
No problem Adam. Hope your unit comes back soon.
