Tellerium Black any good?

Posted by: AussieSteve on 19 August 2016

Hi All, I was just looking at Tellerium Black speaker cable and it's a good price. Would anyone like to offer advice about this vs NACA5?

You might try sifting through the eight pages of this thread: Tellerium Q Black in da house

Then again, it pretty much leads you full circle back to NACA5, so might just as well spare yourself the time

hard to find any cable that  boogies better than NACA 5.

Miles better than A5. It was no contest when I did an extended home demo. It now resides very happily in my system.

I'm with IANG. I have TQ black speaker cable and to my ears it's clearly a better cable. As JOERAND said, lots been said about these cable. Some like, some don't. You really need to demo, as always, and decide if you like how it sounds

I agree. Clearly better in my set-up.

I found TQ interconnects work very well for me. Less happy with their speaker cables, so I ended up using NAIM's own wires.

But test - Tellurium Q do make fantastic cables.

Or anything with more soul than Odyssey!!!

It's TQ black for me, but I suppose it does depend on what system your using.... Hence as everyone says have a home demo

Works for me. My dealer laughed at the suggestion NACA 5 was comparable so I, possibly trustingly, didn't bother with a comparison. It's noticeably better than the slightly cheaper mid (of their) range QED I was using.

TQ Black for me.  The thread refered to above, if I remember rightly, did not circle back to Naca5 for the OP who moved on to Naim's rather more expensive cables.  Best thing to do is see if you can borrow some and have a listen.

As the OP of the 'in da house' thread, I would, in summary, say that I found the TQB much better than A5 when I was using PMC speakers. When I then swapped to Naim speakers, I found A5 to be preferable. Since then I have swapped to Super Lumina, but that doesn't impact on the observations above. So I'd echo the advice to listen and see which you prefer, as there is no definitive 'better'.

A lot of dealers will have a demo set of black available, and if not, with a 30 day money back guarantee, you can't go wrong.

+1 to that

TQB user here. Happy with them connecting my SN2 to Dynaudio speakers.

Compared to NACA5 in my system TQB is better at controlling bass

Another vote for TQB here...is out classes naca5 on my system and by a large margin, it`s simply more detailed and refined with superb dynamics and timing, I even did a home dem of SL speaker cable for a 2 week period and did an A/B with TQB, that gave me good 75% of what the SL produced but at a fraction of the cost!!

I was surprised how good TQB was tbh, both cables were well run-in and clearly the SL had the edge but there was not that much in it.

When funds permit I will try the SL against the TQUB and SL, will be interesting to see how it pans out.

To give some balance to this thread, I tried it once, but I just couldn't get along with it.

Strange sounding cable, and in fact wasted my time listening to it due to all the hype on the forum.

It certainly did not live up to the hype at all to my ears.

The TQ UB is an awesome cable. I think to be fair though, as the SL cables are silver plated, maybe try the Ultra Silver against them.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the comparison though!

To the OP -  as ever home demo essential, worth reminding yourself what you are trying to achieve.   Is it fine tuning your system or a more substantial upgrade in performance.   If it's the latter there maybe other ways of achieving the objective.

Regards,

Lindsay

Rob T, once you've heard the UB it's tough to go back to Black. The UB is smoother, more detailed, more analogue sounding than the black. I borrowed a set not so long ago and, after giving them back, the blacks sounded harsh and almost compressed in some way. With my SN and CDX2 the step up in cable price was a clear step up in performance! Till funds alow for an upgrade, I'm very happy with my blacks though!

They sound an interesting proposition, I look forward to auditioning them in due course and will post my thoughts.

Analougmusic It`s a shame you feel your time was wasted listening to these cables.

I have found over and 35+ years I have been into HiFi there have been products along the way that were not for me, possibly due to system matching (or not as the case may be) or ones own personal taste.

To me that is what this wonderful hobby/interest of ours is all about, discovering new gear. I have never felt it a waste of time listening to new kit even when it was not right for me for whatever reason. Sometimes that has included products that have high praise by fellow enthusiast or the press/dealers.

By auditioning different products it allows  us to gain knowledge and experience. and to know what we do like, I just seems a shame you feel trying new stuff if its not to your liking a waste of time.

When folks express enthusiasm for a product that works well for them should that be described as "Hype"? Im not sure it does, but we are all different I guess.

All I can say is having used many, many different cables over the years the TQB really does wonders for me in my setup.

Rob T i do understand what you are saying, but I haven't yet found a cable better than NACA 5 for that all important "boogie" factor....

Anyone know what the minimum length for TQB would be? Is it 3.5m, as for NACA 5?

Posted on: 21 August 2016 by Finkfan

The TQB is almost the same spec as NAC A5
