SN2 as a Pre w/ 250DR?

Posted by: DynFan160 on 20 August 2016

I have no interest in the 272N. I doubt the added benefit of the HCDR or 202. The 282 is out of reach. I am curious if any SN2 upgraded by using it as a pre with the 252DR? If so what benefits did you hear?

Beyond that - it's Saturday night, beer-o'clock has come and gone, and I have no idea what the rest of your system is, so I'll say no more for now....

I tried it... It's fun but... not in a long run.

There is a certain logic why SN2 works best on its own (perhaps with an added HiCap - but that is debatable).
So for my SN2-based system, decided to continue working on sources instead

Well my CB 250 has been on my SN2 for several weeks. I did remove it for a week, and really missed it, the improvement is not subtle.

The reason I did not put a 250Dr on my SN2 is a bit different. I know what 250DR is capable of in my other system.

I felt that pairing it with an SN2 would be doing the NAP a bit of disservice.

I also tried NAP 200 DR and that was actually quite fun, but seemed a bit leaner than bare SN2. More detailed, but too lean for my taste.

But all in all... whatever works, as long as the music is the primary focus and the joy of listening to it stays at the forefront

I actually bought the 250 for my second system, and had no intention of  messing with my SN, as previous experience with a 200 on a Nait XS proved to be a backward step musically. Curiosity got the better of me however, and once installed, there was no way i was going back. I may try a standalone pre at some stage, but presently too busy enjoying music to mess with it.

well the Dynaudio focus 260 needs a 250 DR....

Normally one would say pre first but as Analogue says those 160s like power so on this occasion it could well be the right way forward.

as I understand from the pictures thread, Dynfan has Focus 260 which needs even more power than the Focus 160.

But one fantastic speaker, I am very happy with mine.

......which is really just another way of saying spend quite a bit more cash, and you'll get a better sounding system!

in a way yes.. by getting a dedicated pre-amp for that lovely NAP 250.

I'm leaving my SN2 alone (for now) and my 250DR is enjoying it's duties in tandem with a NAC 252.

SN/SN2 is only sound best when adding the HiCap. So additional power, I suggest you try to bi-amped the SN/SN2 with 200 only. The Speaker must have the bi-wire for this case. More effortless sound, use the Hiline bi-amped interconnect. I tried this combo with ProAD28, D38, Gryphon Mojo and ProAc Carbon Pro 6. All sound more effortless after adding NAP200. For me, you will getting the same result if you add NAP250 (same performance like 200).
