Adding Shares and Stores to Synology NAS

Posted by: Leatherneck on 23 August 2016

I have a new Synology NAS to replace a similar one.  I have been trying to create a Network Share and Music Store so I can rip music with my UnitiServe to the new NAS.  I’ve been using Naim’s Desktop Client software. The information needed is host name, IP address and share name.  No matter how I try to enter this info, it always tells me it’s missing the IP address.

I had problems trying to do this with my first NAS but I cannot remember how I did it.  I am also running the Desktop Client on my Macs and I don’t remember how I accomplished that as well.

Can someone offer advice and consul to me?

Thanks in advance.

I see no-one has answered this.  I think the answer is that you create the music store and the share in the Synology desktop system and then you tell the Unitiserve about it using the Naim Windows desktop client. Hopefully me answering this will awaken some of those experts here who understand this better than me.

You could also email (or phone, but I see you aren't in the UK so this may not be a good option) to Naim customer support.  If Phil Harris is there, he will be able to tell you exactly what to do.

Nope - this is done via nServe app (Win or Mac).

Once your NAS is on-line and visible to your network computer, if should be able to see the drives from the nServe app. THere will be some commands on the left, like create store or share.

Bud - I just saw you're on a Mac. I can guide you there (also on a Mac). Just email me directly (email is in my profile)

Most important;y you must enable your new drives to be visible and accessible to all types of users (example: guest with full read/write priviledge). I use QNAP but I'd imagine Synology will have something similar.

There isn't a win version of nserve Adam.

Dave - I meant the application for a PC or a Mac OS. There is one,- perhaps it's not called nServe but it certainly controls the UnitServe.

It's called the Naim Windows Desktop Client, as I mentioned in my earlier posting.......
