A Loud Listening Weekend
Posted by: Mike-B on 25 August 2016
Mrs-Mike went into hospital this morning for a knee replacement; the deed is done & I'm happy to report she's OK apart from the expected after effects. Now apart from visiting & being a good hubby & as she's probably not being released until Tuesday, I'm all set for a long weekend of listening to what I want, when I want & as loud as I want.
Started the evening with an oldie but goodie B.B.King "Live at the Regal" then working my way through many hours of "my" music as I like over the next days.
Not forgetting F1 at Spa - the 2nd greatest track on the planet - Qualifying & Race with TV audio via NDX.
And the fridge well stocked with a variety of carnivorous delights & the garden rammed with enough veg to feed an army, did I mention Brakspears Best & a few bottles of red grape juice ......... oh well back to the tread wheel.
Sounds great! And totally agree that Spa is the second greatest track. Silverstone first! Enjoy the race.
Mike, I had a hip op six weeks ago and did catch up with a lot of good music with lots of time to kill. No grape juice though.
Enjoy yourself in the next few days. She's going to need all your help to get back on her feet. I wish her a speedy recovery.
Have fun in the meantime!
Glad it went well; soon she'll be getting the benefit - much more mobile and free of pain (well in that knee at least!). The current replacement joints have improved enormously over the original ones used.
Thanks for the measages, her #2 knee is scheduled for 6 months. Yes joints are good these days, I've got two partial knees & had a check earlier this year & was told to expect new bearing inserts in 15 years.
+1 for Silverstone
Aqualung just finished, Cream next, "Dizzie Gears". Halfway down a nice one from Stellenbosch, now do I make it to the bottom or not ??? ........... stupid question I guess.
Mike - glad to hear all went well with the surgery.
Also your medicinal intake of music and CH3OH seems to be working well too
What's in store, music-wise?
I seriously hope it's C2H5OH not CH3OH, as CH3OH is methanol, and is quite toxic!

Ooops...
Of course Huge... I was never very good at chemistry.
Safest to say - fermented grape juice then

Queued up Ten Years After "Undead - Live at Klooks Kleek" TYA are a band I followed when I wur a lad, Klooks Kleek was a nice club venue in north London that I went to most weeks & I was there at that recording gig. Strange how the memories are retained despite the Lucy & Holy Herb of those times.
Best wishes to the wife for a quick and safe recovery and enjoy your orgy of music over the next few days.
Tom.
Glad the op went well. Sounds like you are in for a good couple of days. Have fun.
Enjoy Mike - and hope all goes well for Mrs Mike ... i think however it will be a cracker of a weekend weatherwise.... perhaps some late night sessions eh?
Best wishes for your wife's speedy recovery Mike. I had a total knee replacement two years ago & it's been brilliant! (new hip due in four weeks...). Reckon you're going to have a fab weekend.
This scenario does not always work out. My wife had surgery this Feb for cancer and when she was in I listened to a few of her favourite tracks one evening. Left me a blubbering wreck and I cannot listen to those songs at all now without feeling the same again!
I should say she's very fit again now
Bruce
Bruce/Mike - important stuff is that your respective better halves are doing well. Mrs Strat had to have extensive treatment last year for peritoneal cancer but pleased to report she came roaring back to top form and even from the hospital ward did not relinquish her appointment as Chief Executive!!
Hope all continues to go well.
Regards,
Lindsay

Yes absolutely for sure, best wishes to you both Bruce & Mrs Lindsay .............. But absolutely no chance of me playing Mrs Mike's favourite tracks; whilst she likes a lot of my fav's, I freely admit that Gary Barlow, Adele & the ABBA blonde bird are not to my taste
best wishes & quick recovery for you wife
i hope she is not going to read this topic, you sound little bit happy to be home alone
Enjoy Mike - hope Mrs B is back home safe and well soon.

She's probably reading this as we speak Emre; she frequently pops in for a read & although does not have any interest in the technobabble, she does have has passing interests in system (room) pics w.r.t. decor. She is ever-so-slightly amused at some of it & says we are like a bunch of over excited pre-teen school boys.
Your wife's a very perceptive lady!
she is right i always say to my wife..... no night life with top models, not too much drinking, no drugs, no expensive cars.... just a little bit cables, amps, sources, cds and stuff....
So this one for Mrs.Mike-B
Stereo geeks(or Naim geeks which ever you prefer) are best husbands ever!!!

I wuz brung up in the Marlow/Henley area, so between Brakspear & Col Wethereds finest I was spoiled for choice. Many moons ago (after a few overseas moves) I settled further upstream over the Oxfurd border & now have added to Brakspear (brewed these days by Wychwood) Wychwood's own brews, & without doubt as good as any are the various Hook Norton brews & Old Hooky the best of all.
Wow, small world. I used to DJ at a wee club in Henley a million years ago.
Now not far in Wokingham where I am not spoilt for choice of pubs or fine ales. Life is good...with beer n music!!

Hi Mike -
Mrs. Hook shares her opinion, even though I've tried to explain that many of us boys are still in that difficult age range...of 14-79.
My 71-year old brother-in-law had knee replacement a couple of weeks back. While the post-op swelling was pretty scary looking, he now seems to be making good progress through PT, and says the pain, while still significant, is different and more tolerable than before the op.
Hope Mrs. B has a swift and successful recovery!
ATB.
Hook
