A Loud Listening Weekend

Posted by: Mike-B on 25 August 2016

Mrs-Mike went into hospital this morning for a knee replacement;  the deed is done & I'm happy to report she's OK apart from the expected after effects.  Now apart from visiting & being a good hubby & as she's probably not being released until Tuesday,   I'm all set for a long weekend of listening to what I want, when I want & as loud as I want.

Started the evening with an oldie but goodie B.B.King "Live at the Regal" then working my way through many hours of "my" music as I like over the next days.

Not forgetting F1 at Spa - the 2nd greatest track on the planet - Qualifying & Race with TV audio via NDX.

And the fridge well stocked with a variety of carnivorous delights & the garden rammed with enough veg to feed an army,  did I mention Brakspears Best & a few bottles of red grape juice  .........  oh well back to the tread wheel.

Hi Hook,  how is it in sunny Minnesota.   To be honest when drinking a pint of Old Hooky the last thing on my mind is beers from your side of the pond.  Yes I know you have some nice craft beers,  but somehow Coors & Bud have not carried the banner well for Team USA.

What can I say about the Hooky clan of the Land of Many Waters, all top notch if ever there ever was

Thanks for best wishes for Mrs-B,  unfortunately its not going to plan, the surgery (mechanical part) has gone well,  but something happened with the anesthetic that has caused problems.  Hoping a few hour of real sleep will restart the process on the right track & thats how it appears this morning.   bit early to say all systems go, but fingers crossed.

Loud Listening for tonite - "Amused to Death",  "Santana IV",  "The Wall",  & then some cool mellow jazz from Four Play into the wee small hours.

Mooi loop.

Santana IV - a very good album. I'd say a bit of a return to form for the band and Carlos.

Have fun Mike and please say hello to Mrs B and wish her a speedy recovery, from all those strange people you correspond with on regular basis

Absolutely,  he got a bit lost with various personnel coming & going over the years but this is the old band back together & doing stuff the way only they can.   Most likely "IV" will get another blast tonite.

Tonites Loud Listen - DSOTM, need I explain,   Forcione & Sabina "MMIL",  Paul Simon "Stranger to Stranger",  Paul Berner Band "Road to Memphis" & finally,  cued up & set ready to play next as I finish the Pinotage,    John Huling "Mesa Sunrise"

The loudness has gone & the turn it down button is back home,  a day later than planned due to some anesthetic complications,  but she in good form with happy face, her leg is all the colours of Boy George's eye make up but all the bit are working, albeit slo-o-o-w-l-y.   She went to bed early (hard day with the physio) & left me playing some soft mellow stuff.

Carmen Gomes Inc "Thousand Shades of Blue"   MK "Kill to Get Crimson",   Michael Hedges "Aerial Boundaries"  David Elias "The Crossing"  & finally John Hulling "Mesa Sunrise"

So thats it,  fun over,  domestic work schedule has been set for the next few weeks.

But having Mrs Mike back home and well on the mend is more than compensation for that.

The turn it down button is still in operation:  Mrs Mike's new knee is progressing "normally",  a strict exercise plan is on schedule but her knee & leg still requires ice & elevation two or three times a day to reduce swelling, walking is slow, unaided mostly around the house but crutches for anything further.  The last ice & elevation session is normally mid evening & that turns in to be an early night-night, hence the need to keep the volume down & all in all is not good for a night owl like me.

I have found the domestic goddess stuff quite interesting,  not quite as challenging as understanding damping factors or ethernet protocol,  but a change is as good as a rest.  Cooking has always been a hobby so that bits a pleasure,   but I've required in depth training on the quirks of washing machines & do's & don't's of ironing & I've now been awarded full corporate approval.  I was fully approved for driving shopping trolleys, but seems I have a lot to learn in my supermarket produce selecting skills.

Mike - that's perfectly Ok - apparently I need to be given a list of items to buy, when the item count exceeds 3

Adam

PS Glad to see Mrs Mike condition is improving - will take a while before she can fire those shots comfortably. But progress is inevitable and that's good.

That very same thought has crossed my mind Chris.

Mike, Chris - I tried this approach several times. Does NOT work - our ladies are far too clever to fall for that I'm afraid...
