European Prices
Posted by: Jonathan on 27 August 2016
Hi all - I live outside the UK - given the devaluation of the pound (which hurt me) - I would have thought that prices in Euros should drop. So far I have not noticed.... Does anyone know any Euro based Naim retailers that have better prices now (by -10%) vs a few months ago?
Cheers
Jonathan
Hi Jonathan,
I think that European price lists for 2016 - 17 were defined before the drop of the £ and so prices remain as are.
FWIW, in Italy it would seem that ours are 10% above average... makeing it even more convenient to buy abroad...
Ciao
I hope the next price list will show a drop, the prices have grown a bit out of proportions.......
Prices will certainly not drop... and my local dealer (in France) told me Focal are thinking of putting up prices.
Why should prices go down if people are still buying?
The currency situation is so volatile that I suspect no dealer is going to take the risk of losing a significant proportion of the profit margin in between order and payment. After all, if Brexit had been Bremain and the GBP had gone up to 1.5 you'd hardly be clamouring for the prices to go up would you? ![]()
Frank.
Prices never go down........ only up! There's always an excuse to raise prices - labor costs, exchange rates, etc, but these never seem to figure into the equation when they go down.
Go figure!
Frank - I doubt the pound would have gone to 1.5, but hey - thats you and me speculating. Happy to have an offline chat about brexit. Still, I would think that there should be a reasonable linkage (after selling out stock at the higher rate for sure) between uk price and exchange rate. Generally I buy my Naim gear from the UK anyway, but I would like to get a second powerline and can only get this in continental Europe. 500 quid in Uk and 750+ in Europe is not something I appreciate....
Cheers

The pound hit 1.5 on the night of the 23rd when the earliest results suggested potential Bremain. As for reasonable linkage, you have no idea how the dealer/distributor operates, nor when payments are made between the various 3rd parties, so you can't actually say what's reasonable.
And of course if you don't support your local dealer by buying from the UK instead, then your local dealer has less margin to play with.
Frank.
Cloney audio in Dublin, Ireland sell at the current exchange rate.

But how many people are buying? If prices keep going up then the pool or rich naim buyers start to dry up.
