Technical xps vs 555 on 272

I have the same system as you except Sopra 3's and I asked the exact questions to the North American Naim brand manager and this is what he told me...

The XPS DR is indeed the natural partner for the 272 and the one that will give the best overall balance. PS555 will bring a little more (more details for example) but, then the 272 will be the weak link…I recommend the XPS DR,

The 272, XPS DR is great with a 300DR, this is what we used when we did the dealer’s introduction of the Sopra line.

 You are right for the 300, Focal guys love this amp. They do not like the 500… too much Flat Earth as the brits say.

They have done the final check with Statement for sure… it is now our reference….

A turbo AND a compressor. That's interesting! So its a biturbo like the wonderful diesel Saab had introduced just before going bust?

Do check the manual - I'm sure it elaborates on which circuitry is oowered by an external PSU.

As to your second question: you can attach XPS or 555PS only to one component. So CDX2 if running in an analogue out, will need an own dedicated PSU.

On a 272, the external PS powers everything. How much benefit this brings to the analogue side I couldn't say, but with an XPS connected, the 272 no longer uses it's own power lead.
