NAC - N272 and Digital Signal Processor
Posted by: sls on 28 August 2016
On the website Naim stated that the NAC-N272 is a Digital Signal Processor. Where is he in this photo?
Friends, I want to buy this preamp/streamer. On the Naim website States that it has a Digital Signal Processor is the same as in the NDX. But I don't see it in the pictures. So is he there or not? Can anyone answer this question? And if it is, then where is he hidden?
SLS,
At first, excellent choice!
There is some ambiguity in the phrase 'Digital Signal Processor'. One can think it is the DAC (Digital-to-Analogue-Convertor), but also the whole product which is on the photo could be understood as being the 'Digital Signal Processor'. My votes are on the latter option which implies that your whole photo is the correct answer on your question :-)
What mainly matters to us - Naimees - is mainly the fact that the purpose of the N272 is both being Preamp and Streamer whilst the NDX is primarily and solely a Streamer.
What Power Amp do you intend to use?
The DSP will be done within a DSP processor chipset, which as part of the DAC will probably reside somewhere in the top right hand corner of the pic you posted above - as I haven't seen on naked in the flesh, the picture isn't a high enough resolution to tell you exactly which chip it is, sorry.
The NAC-N 272 (along with the ND5XS, NDX, NDS and SuperUniti) feature an Analog Devices SHARC processor. I can't point to where it is on the board, but look for the Analog Devices logo (a triangle as seen on their website) on a largish square chip, although it's possible it's been covered up or under the streaming board.
Thank you all for the tips! I found it. SHARC was under the streaming cost. In the photo pointed to by the red arrow.

Excuse my English, I from Russia. The amplifier will use Naim NAP-250 - 2. I already got it.
