Melco NA-1

Posted by: ThatsNotMyNaim on 31 August 2016

Does anyone have one of these. Considering this to replace Mac with Hugo/XS2/Proac.

I have one big question.

I use WAV files as I find them most balanced / natural.

Does the Melco retain track names/data if you copy files across from a computer (post ripping).

If not can you name the WAVs via Melco machine/app and will it retain track info?

Cheers

Melco N1A, there is another thread running I just saw/replied in. I use Metadatics for all file renaming, for me I find that so long as I have the Master WAV file I can rename it to anything I wish, but its a long process and gets boring with lots of tracks/albums. Metadatics is also good for renaming Qobuz files that are not displaying correctly.

Use Metadatics online library it finds your album, select it, add that metadata it provides then adjust/tweak to your own flavour from there.

Great. Thank you.

Do you have experience of using Metadactics to tag WAVs which you then transfer to the Melco? All reads ok on the Melco?

Or do you mean you edit the names vis thr Melco itself?

I'm close to buying the Melco over the Zen / Zenith but WAV and file naiming are a must for me. WAV is so much more natural.

I transferred all my previously ripped and downloaded files from my NAS with no metadata issues. When I use dBPowerAmp I rip directly to the Melco now. I download QoBuz files to my PC and then copy them across again no problems with metadata.

With WAV? Or just Flac / Alac.

Kid3 on Mac manages to writes tags to WAV that audivarna reads and holds. Only thing I have ever seen retain WAV names.

I've just had an email from a dealer. He contacted Melco rep.

The rep says a CD drive (prefer Buffalo BRXL-a16U3) can now be connected to the Melco and you can rip direct into WAV or FLAC format and Gracenote database will auto assign your album names.

Hallelujah. The Melco is on the hit list.

I have only used FLAC so far.

What I don't know is how this compares to ripping with dBpoweramp. Is it able to compare the rip accuracy with a checksum?

Getting deep now... ha

I'm not sure. I don't even think I've ever thought about rip accuracy.
