My SN2 volume/balance control light got turn off automatically.  I belive I had programmed it that way inadventantly.

Can someon please tell me how I could turn it back on?

Also, how could I activate this auto-turn off function just in case I change my mind later on ?

Do you have a 'display' button on your remote? If in pre-mode it should switch on or off the indicators on the SN2.

There is no auto turn off or so called default power on state. The amp turns on with the display enabled. The pressing of the "disp" button on the remote toggles it on/off.

If you are however on system automation with a streamer (as in my case), operating the volume via N-stream will illuminate the button momentarily if it has been turned off previously.

It cannot be done.

You just press the disp button on the remote to turn the lights on and off. Is that what you mean?

I mean can it be done automatically without remote?

There are two settings: lights on all the time, and lights off all the time unless a button is pressed on the remote, in which case the lights come on for a few seconds and then go off again. It's described in the manual.
