Hi and help or pointers needed re noise feed on uniti-qute2

Posted by: Nuno22gp on 08 September 2016

Hi everyone.

My entry into a decent sound system consists of the following:

Naim Uniti qute2

Sonus Faber B

REL T9i

To the qute the following are hooked up:

Apple TV via fiber optic digital cable

samsung tv via fiber optic digital cable

cable tv via rca cable

internet via ethernet

Here's where I need help. If only all was well... Everything sounds great except Apple TV or if attempting to play anything off the tv´s apps, such as netflix. When doing this, there is no sound but a terrible "feed" noise. Keep in mind however that sound from the tv is perfect - using the same optic cable, the same input on the qute- the moment an app is started however - thumppppppppppp. Apple TV is Ethernet wired, TV is wifi. Just doesn't make sense (to me) and is likely something obvious but hey, it's got me licked.

Sound familiar to anyone? Thanks a stack.

The digital out from the offending sources isn't set to the wrong kind of signal, is it? (PCM vs something else, the UQ manual should help). Think I remember a similar issue at first.

Have you searched the www about Netflix crashing ???  It does answer the line noise question but I'm asking (only) as I know very little about it other than I know someone who uses Apple & has problems & he says its global.

I don't know the Apple TV but I did have the same issue with the output from a cheap streamer - as Dave suggested above it was a case of changing the output from the source and all was good

The Qute is a 2 channel PCM DAC so you need to set the output of any attached digital AV kit to force PCM 2 Channel, otherwise whenever a multichannel source is played you just get horrible noise.

Thanks guys.

To really confuse the crap out of everything, after reading your suggestions, I changed the digital output out of the TV to PCM and  now everything is ok, including the Apple TV, although I did not touch the apple settings. Thinking that something was amiss, I changed the tv settings back to Linear and still the sound is ok. No idea what happened but as all is ok now I'm happy.

Thank you Richard. This is what I did and everything is a-ok.
