Hillary Clinton

Diagnosed with pneumonia and didn't look well tonight.

Question for our US mates: If she continues to be unwell to the extent that she is unable to stand in the election, what happens?

Posted on: 11 September 2016 by joe9407

pneumonia won't prevent her from running in the election. however, US political parties can nominate a new candidate if the winner of the party's primary election cannot complete the race.

I wish we could have Bill stand in for her. That would be a win-win as far as I'm concerned.

Michelle Obama next time. After the Trump presidency (I've nearly finished the nuclear shelter)

I assume the safest place in my house is inside the naim cases.

Naim users having only a Muso won't survive a nuclear attack.

I am much more worried about Trump's mental health.

Inasmuch as Hillary is backed by the same pack of neocons that were behind Cheney (even the war criminal Paul Wolfowitz was speaking on her behalf last week), I think you're more likely to need that shelter if Hillary gets elected. Especially when she gets Nuland and Fournoy in her cabinet. She will bring us more and bigger war, on that you can count.

This in NO way even implies anything favorable about Trump. This election is positively, hands down the worst thing to ever come along in my lifetime.

Same opinion here. It's quite astonishing to see that the nation which is supposed to be the best and greatest, has two such dividing candidates.

I would be worried if Trump get's elected. Look what Bush brought us and Trump is a degree further away from sanity.

Just a question (- please don't put me on the Trump side, I'm absolutely not): who do you trust more, someone insulting about 50% of the planet in public, or someone you seldomly can hear telling the truth?

That's the choice Americans have.

+1. Add to further from sanity that Trump is likely a few watts brighter than Bush and an egoist; a volatile recipe.

As an average joe in America it's difficult for me to reconcile how the US has arrived at the two candidates we are presented with. Deplorable and scary, but I will say that my vote has been and will remain a part of the process throughout.

But Bert, that's what is insane - the EXACT same cabal that was behind Bush/Cheney is solidly behind Hillary...she is one of them. She is a neocon through and through.

Of course, I also maintain they will bring Trump to heel as well; they always get their way...although as much of a dumb@ss as he is, I can't help but wonder if he's not simply there to get her elected.  (I truly doubt it, but the whole situation is so depressingly beyond explanation that nothing can be considered impossible.)

We cannot continue spending on military at the pace we do and get away with it. The Dept of Defense (I wish we still called it by its pre-1947 name, the "War Dept" - at least it was honest) budget is crippling this country in the name of multinational corporate interests and world hegemony. Plus recent audits have shown staggering amounts of money have gone missing...but it's only other countries that are corrupt.

Where are the people who want peace? We have teenagers about to arrive at voting age who have NEVER known a world without the US at war, and none of these wars have been justified.

As always, rule number one is "follow the money." Rule two is "see rule one."

I know no more about either candidate than I learn for UK media (mostly BBC and broadsheets) but if I had the choice I'd go for Clinton on the basis that she has had much experience of office and understands what's needed.  As part of that she will also understand the need for compromise, both domestically and especially internationally.  Even the President of the most powerful nation on earth can't get their way on everything.  Trump, in addition to his outrageous and divisive views on many issues, has no experience whatsoever. How will he react to those who tell him what he needs to hear rather than wants to hear? Trump would be a very, very big gamble in my view, and no just for the welfare of the United States.

What do you guys think are the chances that Trump might just do a good job ? You guys might just have gotten the right man for the job

I certainly hope that Trump is elected president. We are going on holiday in New York over Christmas. I think if Trump gets, in the US dollar will plummet, so our NZ dollar should be worth more. So hopefully we will have a cheaper vacation.

Guys. Look on the bright side.

At least with Trump, you can change your minds after 5 years (or is it just 4?)

With Brexit, we are stuck with it FOREVER !!

Some on this forum think that Bush was bad therefore Trump is bad too. - no opinion here, just observation.

Following the same logics, in the UK there is now a female prime minister and female UKIP Leader (not the same person, certainly regretted by some) so why no female President Clinton too?

Posted on: 17 September 2016 by Willy

Female First Minister in Northern Ireland, in Scotland as well. Leaders of Labour and Conservative in Scotland are female. New Ukip leader is female. Probably others I'm not aware of.

Willy.

Populism, it's the same, wether it's the Grexit, Brexit, Trump, or Hillary.

And the Media is key, in how one perceives the political landscape.

The world is shrinking, it's a Global Market, and Isolation, as appealing as it sounds, is not the Answer.

Greece didn't buy it, even though it was shoved down their throats.

Brexit, well you guys now know exiting the EU is not the Answer.

The Donald, and the Right wing party is catering to the populist view, Hillary Rodham Clinton, is catering to the populist view.

Why? The System is not working!

It's working for the Elites, both types of Elitist.

Those that deplore the populist, and those that blame the other Elitist, for not giving the populist what they want.

A Deflating world Market, doesn't hurt when your credit is 5 Star AAA, loans are dirty cheap, and even if you get stuck with cash, you're still fifthy rich.

(The Rich get richer, and the poor get poorer! And the shrinking Middle, Austerity!)

But guess who it does hurt, the very group that's complaining, the Populist.

No Increase in wages, stop imigration, they're taking are jobs, send them back, Grexit, Brexit, Left, Right.

Divide, and Conquer that's what politicians do.

Left vs Right

 Hillary vs Trump

They're are not interested in your opinions, they're selling their ideas and opinions.

Being fed by the Elitist, Lobbyists, disguised by Political Parties, The Troika, etc...

Globalization at its Best!

Yanis is point on, it's a bit like Sausage if you new it's make-up you wouldn't touch it ( the political scheme).

Democratization is are only hope.

Who are you, who gave you this power, how do we the people, the Republic, get rid of you!

So if Hillary, or Trump wins the Executive branch, the System must be Democratized, otherwise it's business as usual!

Obama, Dem., Executive Branch

 Supreme court, Rep., Judicial Branch

House & Senate, Rep., Legislative Branch

Funny thing, even a Bee has enough sense to repollinate the flower.

""Populism makes two comebacks: The progressive left and the reactionary right battle for ownership in 2016 cage match

Populism has had the limelight in this year, but many are still making a huge mess of its meaning""

A good read!

Posted on: 18 September 2016 by Allante93

"'"Other prominent populists have been more firmly grounded in progressive or reactionary politics, including figures like Eugene Debs, Franklin Roosevelt, and Bernie Sanders on the left, and George Wallace and Donald Trump on the right. Progressive and reactionary populists obviously don’t share an ideology or a philosophy, or even a unique style. What makes them “populist” are the anti-elitist themes that run through their politics, and their claims to represent and fight for the people.""

Hillary must cater to the Bernie Sanders followers, after all Bernie was a handful. The Millennians, and Generation Y'ers are needed in the General election.
