UnitiLite - NEAT Motive SX2 replacment
Posted by: Monkadill on 12 September 2016
Hi,
I am looking at a CD/Streaming solution to replace my UnitiLite. Ideally id like to keep the same speakers. What is the recommended pairing as a upgrade from the UnitiLite?
Thanks
Mark
*Update*
I am the proud owner of a N272 / NAP200. I managed to source a ex demo N272 and NAP 200, the N272 is 2016 and the NAP 200 2012. I traded my Unitilite in against the N272 so the package cost me £2850 with the trade in : )
The system is up and running and my first observation is that the music has a far greater depth.

Hope you're enjoying it as much with your Neat SX2 as I enjoy that combo with my PMC 20.23
Im hearing more and more and its sounds lush through the Neat's Eloise

The 272/200 can obviously reveal much more in future. However, the next thing to look at would be the MinimServer on the Synology. I hear that this is a VERY worthwhile thing to do on the Synology servers.
Frank.
Thanks for the tip on the MinimSever Frank, it turns out to be very good.
The upgrade journey continues.. traded my NEAT Motive SX's in against new s-400's.
As per all the posts on here Im in the running in phase. Day one and I was wondering if I had made a mistake as the speaker sound was awful, the bass booming. Day 2 and they have settled in immensely and they are a pleasure to listen too. My initial observation is there is more Bass which is great. Im stuck by the constraints of my room so have a 70cm gap behind the speaker and 20 from the side wall and 15 cm from the unit.
Does anyone run there S-400's on plinths such as granite slabs?
XPSDR is joining the show next week and that will be done for now.

Congrats Mark on your S400. It would be great once your system settles if you can elaborate on your observations between the Neat SX2 and the S400s. I happen to have the SX2 and they are excellent in my room with my SN2.

Thanks Moussa. Im not particularly clued up on the right terms for sound but I will share the initial observations at about 50hrs running. The bass is strong, that was my only real criticism of the SX2's was that they lacked bass. The S400s need less power to produce the right sound, I would run my SX2's at volume 50 for a strong sound but the S400 only need 35. There is a greater sound stage, I never really understood the expression "sound stage" but when I heard it i knew what was meant. At the moment the sound of the S400s are a bit hollow and i'm hopping this changes soon. The SX2s were warm and vibrant. At this point in time I would say they havn't surpassed the Neats.
That's some statement ... indeed, I love my Motive SX2's ... hope the sound will change soon ...

Hope you still have the Motives, I'd take these anyday the week over Ovators
Need deeper bas get at sub
The Journey is over, XPSDR was that last piece of the puzzle for now. Ref the S400's they take 250 hrs to run in and the sound improvement in the space of a few days is noticeable. As they say, i'm hanging in there with them. The XPSDR has already lifted the sound and that also needs running in. All good in my eyes.
Everything is sitting in a Ikea stand for now, target up..

Well its happened, the Ovators are broken in now and the sound is substantially better then id hoped for. The sound quality has now surpassed my Motives (phew) which you would expect. They are a simply amazing. Its been a expensive journey to get form the Neats / Untilite to N272/Nap200/XPSDR/S400's but with some haggling, luck (tax return) and pointers from HungryHallibut I've made it!
That is very good news indeed. It's a bit scary when you think you may have made a horrible mistake, but it's clearly come good in the end.
