Naim NAC 82 crackling

Posted by: Alex Horky on 16 September 2016

Hi,

I bought a NAC82,

Connected it to the HiCap 2, and as Poweramp we connected the SuperNait,

On both channels some heavy crackling, no clean sound?

Any ideas?

The cable of the volume knobs lef is broken ... Just for info!

Maybe someone know what to do!?

Regards

Alex

Not sure exactly what it means, but since you said "The cable of the volume knobs lef is broken" that seems an obvious starting point to me.

Alex, you should write an e-mail to Naim.  Most likely the NAC82 has issues and will need to be looked at by a Naim tech.  Of course, if you've just bought it, I'd be looking for a return and refund if it has issues that were not as advertised or sold.  It usually costs less to buy a really good example than a poor example needing costly remedy and service work.

it was something like a gift... When i bought a newer napsc! The pre is looks like a new one and is from 2k

Just the volume led cable is off and the sound is like described...

So i think i will go with a service at naim, i hope its not expensive.

If you call them on Monday they can give you some options and estimates.  A possibly less costly alternative, would be to try one of a handful of dealers who offer Naim authorised servicing on some Naim kit, such as Grahams or Class A. However, there is of course something very reassuring about a proper factory service job, and you also get a properly logged history on the item, which is nice should you wish to trade in or sell for an upgrade in future.

You ma have a contact adress of graham or class a for me?

Type class a hifi into Google. Why are people so helpless?

HH, we rely on you for your superior talents. What is 'Google'?

Richard, I've had all my gear re-fettled by Darran at Class A. He gives me a data sheet with the list of changed components each time. Is the Naim service history any different?

Haha, funny, not

Loki, Naim's own servicing is kept as a history file relating to the serial number of the piece.  By searching on the serial number of any piece of post '83 Naim equipment, you can see the original build spec, build date, and any subsequent updates or service work undertaken by Naim at the factory.
