Hauptwerk - take 2

Hi All,

In March / April 2016 I posted a question about Hauptwerk + Naim. I got replies on that and hence quite a lot of homework to do.

Based on comments made, I've performed tests on my current setup (Supernait / CM1's).

I've tested how deep my current speakers could go - my CM1's degrade quickly lower than 60Hz - using Hauptwerk, and I got recently a pair of other speakers as well (MoA) which have a much beter linear frequency response. These speakers speakers degrade if music is played lower than 40Hz. Another finding for me was that speakers can reach low, but if mixed with a lot of overtones - which most organs have, especially in a plenum - the speakers get a tough job to do therefore the lower tones suffer quickly.

If you want to test speakers, listen to organmusic. In my opinion speakers which have a linear build up are the best for organ music since organs are dependent on all frequencies.

Most importantly, my opinion has shifted and I acknowledge the need for a multichannel setup. In this specific case from a planned 2.0 setup to a 4/5.1 setup.

My original plan was to get a Dac V1, which seems to be a magic box for any digital input, including async USB, but the Dac V1 is Stereo.

I've shifted my greedy eyes in the direction of the Naim AV2. This box seems to be magic as well, it has several digital and analogue ports, does 5.1 and has a sub-out. Perfect for Hauptwerk I would say!

Since these AV2's don't cost that much, I've already purchased one. I'm routing currently my digital audio signal from my tv to it and have it connected to my Supernait. Completely waste of device, but it works good. If it's not going to end up in my digital organ, I could use it as pre-amp or for tv surround. Loads of options here.

Now the questions :-)

Which bookshelve speakers (max 35 cm high), have a quite linear frequency response, are not too expensive and would fit to either an older Nap 150 or a more recent Nap 100? - I'm thinking of 2x Nap 100 or 2x Nap 150.

Any comments welcome - commments are taken seriously - but I'm a slow mover - have young kids, busy job including a lot of travel etc ...
