Jango Radio

Posted by: Beachcomber on 22 September 2016

For a while now I have been using Jango Radio.  For those that don't know of it, it is an excellent resource for finding music that you might like.  It isn't a radio station in the normal sense (where you just listen to what they decide to put out) - you (to an extent) choose what you want to listen to.  There is quite a lot there, somewhat curated.

I'd like to be able to listen to it using my NDX - but I have not been able to find a way of doing so (short of attaching a PC or similar to the NDX by the PC's audio output).  Does anyone know of a way to get the NDX to access Jango directly?  or some other device to pick up music from tinternet to play through the NDX (or presumably just straight through to the pre-amp)?

Thanks

Steve

For tinkerers like you and me, a modest, PC etc., dedicated to exploration of services like Jango, and Audirvana+ deserves a place in the hi-fi system -- there is no substitute, for flexibility, even if operating a PC in that context is somewhat more awkward than e.g. the NDX.  Once one is resigned to adding dedicated PC, optimizing connections and siting get worthwhile results.

In my case, I have a basic Mac Mini from 2011 connected via a 2-meter Wireworld optical cable.  The long cable permits the Mac to reside outside the main rack, and to power from the ring mains.  I understand some prefer a USB interface between the Mac and DAC; but my setup works well enough for me -- I only use it occasionally.

Looking forward to giving Jango a look.  Dounds a bit like Pandora.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for that.  Yes, I guess a small PC or something would do the job.  I would like something less of a sledgehammer, if that were possible.

Jango is quite useful, certainly.  I will have a look at Pandora...

Cheers

Ha!  Pandora is not available in the UK.  Ah well.
