Muso doesn't ereact…again!

Posted by: Leon di San Marco on 23 September 2016

Hi! I can't connect with my Muso. Network is fine and all my computers work perfectly. Only Muso doesn't. After trying many times without any results the app says that "bonjour" doesn't react. What on earth does that mean?

That means that your network is unfrotunately not fine. Try resseting your network gear (router, switch), Naim app. Also please esnure that your router runs a regular DHCP.

My network is fine, otherwise I couldn't stream music with other players…but I do. Now the Naim works again but only per WI-FI, without LAN-cable…strange, isn't it??

Unfortunately what you describe is typical of a poorly implemented network or a router which is not up to scratch (or both).
From what I have seen and observed there is rarely a problem with NAIM streamer or a a NAIM app when symptoms similar to yours have been described.

You wrote in your initial post that 'bonjour' does not react. This is a network feature, used for zero-configuration networking and means that that your router cannot communicate properly with your streamer (MuSo).

Are you using an Apple router, since you wrote about bonjour?

First of all, thanks for your answers (I forgot to say that!).

I'm not using an Apple router but a FritzBox Router (german, actually a very good one). The Muso is in the kitchen, where there is unfortunately a bad connection. That's why I've been using Power-Lan. Well, every now and then I had problems when connecting but generally it worked fine. Only yesterday it didn't want to work at all. Then, as I wrote, I tried without Network cable and it worked…but it actually should be the other way around since WiFi in that room is so weak!

Now I ask myself, and you , if the network or the router would be the problem then 1) no other streamer would work and 2) without cable the MuSo should work even less. But this is not the case!

Ok, I tried something else. Now my MuSo is in my room. I let him play connected with Network Cable to the router and per WiFi…and in both cases it works perfectly. So, I suppose that the problem lies on the Power-LAN plug.

You will find various posts and threads about Powerline Ethernet connections here. Generally they are bad news. I got rid of mine about a year ago.

As Peter wrote - Powerline Ethernet is generally a bad idea for streaming music.
Can your try and run your MuSo in your other room for 24-48 hours and see if it is stable (the reason for that length is that typically a DHCP renewal is set for 1 day)?
