Stacking Rega and Naim boxes on an Atacama stand

Posted by: reAnimate on 26 September 2016

I have the following devices, stacked in the following order

Rega RP3

Rega Preamp | Rega PSU

Naim NAC112

Naim NDX

Naim NAP150

Naim FlatCap2

Any advice on further positioning, and order?

Thanks.

I assume the Rega pre is a phono stage, if you have another shelf this could go further from the TTps.

Also try swapping flatcap and 150. Can you haer a difference? (I've no idea if you will but worth the experiment, by analogy to 250 and hicap/supercap which I have tried and could). When I had Rega Cursa/Maia (the 112/150's competitors at the time) I didn't hear much difference from stacking order.

Arrange things so there are no power leads touching the rack or signal leads.

Yeah and perhaps a TT wallshelf and purchase some Ikea cutting boards in bamboo, get some nuts/balls or other duts supporting them, use one board under each component, cheap as chips upgrade.

What speakers in ? Maybe think preamp upgrade as next box shift

Thanks.  I had a TT wall shelf a while back and just never got on with it.

What do the boards do?  Why bamboo in particular?  What sort of size bearings?

The speakers are PMC GB1's and yes, the pre amp is next on the list, but not for a while.

Regarding another shelf for the Rega PSU, it's pretty tall right now as it is but I'll see what I can do.

I'll play with the FlatCap2 / NAP and see how that goes.

Thanks again, everyone.

Bamboo boards are cheap, but 8mm or 10mm toughened glass is better.  Stand it on 10mm or 12mm cap nuts (with the dome uppermost in contact with the glass).

Using toughened glass on top of the cap nuts reflects vibration in the audio frequencies back into the stand and at the same time gives a base that retains the vitality in the Naim sound.  Bamboo behaves similarly but is less effective than toughened glass.
