M2Tech HiFace problems

Posted by: ngarritson on 26 September 2016

I bought an M2Tech HiFace with a BNC output to connect my MacBook Pro to my nDac.  I use iTunes.  After the music plays for a few minutes it cuts out and the computer can no longer find the HiFace.  At first I thought it might be my laptop, so I tried my wife's MacBook Air.  Same problem.  So I sent the HiFace back and exchanged it for a new unit.  Same problem again.  What are the odds I received two busted HiFaces?  Not good, although the build quality doesn't strike me as top tier.  Incidentally, I read in a different chat forum that a solution is to make sure the volume in iTunes is turned all the way up, but I was doing that already.

Does anybody know what the problem might be?

Have you checked the BNC/BNC plugs/cable.  What I.C, cable are you using. Any chance of trying a different cable.

Also the weight of the HiFace/cable  may be straining the USB plug/socket.

I stuck some strips of foam sheet under my HiFace to support it when the Mac is sat on a platform.

Never had the issues you describe.

Which version of the M2Tech HiFace? And what OS version on the Mac?

sheffieldgraham:  the cable is a generic BNC/BNC cable the store sold me along with the M2Tech unit.  I suppose I could try a different one, but the issue is the computer loses the M2Tech and the cable is not part of that connection.  Now that you mention it, I have wondered if the weight of the unit was causing it to straight the USB socket.  I will try to put some support under it.

eloise:  the operating system is OSX El Capitan Version 10.11.6.  The exact name of the product is

M2TECH HiFace Two B USB Hi-End SPDIF Output Interface (BNC)

I found it's best to have the Mac powered up before connecting a USB device to it.
