Requesting Metadata crashes Naim app..

Posted by: kevin J Carden on 27 September 2016

For the past month or so I've been experiencing a problem with Naim's controller app whereby requesting an album's metadata causes the App to close after a few seconds of trying to locate the booklet. Upon reopening the app afterwards I get a message telling me the app "quit unexpectedly" and asking if I want to send a report of this fault.

I've also noticed that newly ripped CDs are more frequently failing to locate cover art after ripping than was the case before. Previously it would fail to locate the occasional CD, especially relatively old or obscure albums, but now it is sometimes failing to find even some pretty mainstream albums.

the 'quitting' issue seems to have manifested (or coincided anyway) with me changing internet provider and installing a new router.

Anybody have any thoughts?

What exactly do you mean by requesting metadata?

I think your descriptions about metadata are causing confusion,  I see the word "booklet" in your post so I read that as the Rovi service booklet - which is not metadata.  Rovi has been crashing over the last week or so & I expect that is the problem, or at least a problem we need to eliminate.  Go to the iOS or Android app store,  find the Naim app & you will see their is an update waiting,  install that & see if that fixes your problem.

OP is refereimg to a UnitiServe functionality - a virtual booklet us available from the metadata compiled.

I've seen it happen several times, but not as frequent.

What type of iPad (which generation) and OS are you running?

Is this using the naim App or the nServe app?

If the former (for controlling you NDS) then there is a new version of the app in the App Store which should solve the problem.

Thanks all. Adam has it right - I have a Unitiserve and I'm referring to the virtual booklet that comes from tapping the book symbol. Rovi seems to be the source of the info though..

Adam, iPad is about 2 years old model is MD786B/A and software 9.3.5 (13G36).

i see iOS 10 is available to upgrade to and am downloading that right now.

Mike&Eloise, I believe my Naim controller app is the current version but will delete it and download again from App Store now to make sure.

Kevin - that should run well on your iPad.

I have a number of iPads at home - only the first generation one, which I bought literally 2 days after it was launched, cannot manage a booklet. It's just too slow for that.

Try upgrading the Naim app to the latest verstion. Shoud fix the problem.

If your iOS is 9.3.5,  thats as far as you can go with that hardware, but whatever it will work with all the latest Naim stuff & I hope will do so for many years to come.    iOS 10 is not the solution, besides which it will mean buying a new/ later spec iOS.  The solution for the Rovi problem is as I said in my 1st post with the new version of app.

Bingo! App update does fix it.. Thanks again to all you kind folk. Problem solved on the info front. App Store actually mentions the reasons for the upgrade amongst which was 'fixes an issue of quitting when requesting album info'

Will be interesting to see if it also ups the hit rate on locating album art going forward.

cheers, Kevin

No such luck, its still off target,  it hits OK an many albums, but is way off on others & I don't mean just the obscure ones.
