Headline run-in time

Posted by: Adam Zielinski on 27 September 2016

Testing a brand new Headline with a brand new NAPSC on an extended home demo (my dealer did not have or could not source test ones so he just ordered a new set for me).

What are your experiences with regards to a run-in time? I could not find any info in any of the archive threads...

Is it the usual 2-3 weeks or more like 2-3 months?

Thanks,

I found it to be more on the order of 2-3 days with my new Headline powered by a used FCXS. Maybe a week at most, but I'm not one to get obsessed with the nth degree of run in. I had similar results with a new Stageline. Not a lot to run in in those little boxes. No idea how a new NAPSC plays in the mix. If you're using the Headline on your SN2 I suspect you'll find a big improvement over the built-in HP amp. Put a HCDR on the Headline and you are in for HP nirvana, but then VFM goes out the window.

Enjoy your new Headline demo Adam, just keep the volume knob at arm's reach

Thanks!
It already sounded good last night. This one is actually running off a 252, which was moved to a music room - playing perfectly with Ovators nowadays.

Headline is definately about a week for the main unit. It's the power supply that takes the time. NAPSC doesn't have those massive smoothing caps so probably similarly quick plus alpha. Your scenario of several months is really only when using the Headline with a new HiCap.

Thanks! It's now been plugged in for 24 hours. I will unplug and re-connect everything today. Should help a bit too.

Adam,

One nice aspect of using the Headline in your system is that if you're hell-bent on getting things run-in fast you can keep your HPs plugged in while listening to the speakers. A run-in time saver .

I suspect you've already that figured out.
