Super efficient speakers for a Nait 2

Posted by: Mark J on 27 September 2016

Sorry devotees but still my fave Naim amp (and I've lived with lots)...

Nothing I've heard knits the musical strands together quite like v2 of the humble Nait

Does anyone have input re a high efficiency speaker that can do volume with the 15wpc on tap?

Yes, the Klipschorn

or the La Scala

I know most of these are not necessarilly 'high efficiency', however from experience, Rega Ela mk 1&2 work extremely well with the Nait2 within their limits. SBLs can work too, but require a good front end to shine at their best. Others include Linn Kan mk1 or 2, Russell K Red 50, Shahinian Compass and Arc, and various Royds. Lastly some Heco Direkt high efficiency speakers, if you dig the styling and have a bit of space. A friend ran some Klipsch La Scala with a Nait2 for a while, but went back to Kans in preference.

i share your enthusiasm for the Nait2, and even moreso the Nait1. Presently running my shahinian Compass with a 34 year old, unserviced Nait1 with both a CDX2 and CDS3 upfront. My Supernait2 is taking a rest.

Correction to the above. I think it was Klipsch Forte he ran for a while.

I also am  big fan of the Nait 2, magical little thing.  I had great results with it driving Arcs, currently I have an Olive MK 2 Nait on my MK1 Kans, outrageously good!

Original Snell K are fairly effective and works close to wall, AN/K are developed based on the original Snell design

Advise re. Rega Ela is great, they are cheap as chips if you can find a good pair, love the Royds myself, most of them are around 90db as Ela and Snell /AN.K"

Basically I doubt Nait 2 is a good match with extremely effective speakers, horns etc. Too much noise must be revealed

Epos es11's sounded great on the nait. They need their dedicated epos open frame stands to really sing though. Can be bought for around £150 now so a bargain too.

Devore or Audio Note >90db

A great speaker but hardly very effective

You didn't say if you were looking for new or secondhand, but I am still using Rogers LS7 speakers on my Nait 1, which is less powerful than its successor. These speakers are obviously quite efficient indeed as they can go quite loud with just 13W RMS per channel. You might find be able to pick up a pair of LS7 or 5 at a good price.

They sound great though, and have plenty of volume. I lived with these for many years and really enjoyed them through a few amp combo's, including an olive nait 2.

Yep, I ran a Nait 2 on both es11 & 14

Limited volume at least on es14 in smallish room

Maked a joke though, with much more expensive setups imo

Classic British setup usually win hands down

Tannoy Westminster Royals should make plenty of volume with the little Nait!

Proac has released the Tablet 10- sealed box, super efficient. This could be a very nice , modern speaker to mate with a Nait 1 or 2.  I for one will be checking it out to pair with my CB Nait 2 .

Cheers for recommendations

Am I nuts? My ears tell me there's more music packed into this little box than all the pre/power/power supplies/Powerlines etc I've owned or shared house space with

There is something impressive with the little box than seems to go AWOL the further up the range you go..

Zu Audio has a comprehensive line of high efficiency speakers, some greater than 100 dB. Tube users love them as do lower-powered solid state users. Several of the Zu speakers have 12 or 16 ohm resistivity - not sure how this works with a Nait 2.

Mark J, trust your ears...... you have good ones.

What about Proac Studio 148 floorstander. 91db into 4ohms....Designed for low power amps.

I've been using Guru Juniors for getting on for 2 years now. Easy to place and work very well with the Nait 2.

+1 for the Gurus, I loved mine, but you can't buy them new at the moment

Some interesting suggestions here so thanks to all who replied. What is the closest pre/power sound wise to the Nait 2?

Its the bounce and fun factor that really does it for me and the little guy just sounds so right somehow...

Must be Vereker witchcraft

I am surprised that no one mentioned yet the venerable Kan and long time companion of the Nait's, even if not of the highest efficiency. 8|

Whille it is true that I have not listened to any Klipsch fed by a Naim amp, I would doubt of the result. :)

Focal may be one of many possibilities after all as it offers speakers of efficiencies higher than 91dB/W/m..:malin1:

It has been suggested before on here that the experience you describe may be owing to the simplicity of the circuitry in the small integrated Naim Audio amplifiers. It is an experience that I have found too. In many ways I still think I found the greatest musical enjoyment when I was using my first LP12 (pre-Cirkus, Basik, K-9) into Naim Nait and LS7 speakers.

I'll mention Kans again!

KANS!!

Having a lot of fun with my Nait 2 driving MKI Kans, CDS & LP12 up top, the synergy and boogie factor are off the charts!
