Any bets ???  New streamer/pre-amp,    new all in one +++

Posted on: 03 October 2016 by The Strat (Fender)

It's a new cryogenically treated Super Luminar Powerline.  Before you install it you instruct it from an app on your iPhone (no Android devices please)  and it breaks its way free from the perspex box it's delivered in.   It's quite........well.....revolutionary.

+1 for a 572

Seems there are going to be FOUR new items announced on Thursday not just one

If it's  a Statement level it should be an N1, as N572 would be a streaming preamp. The power supply looks rather small, and the fact that the volume control is on the top suggests it's something stand alone. Perhaps there are more boxes to go with it.

Definitely a new CD player

Really?

How about an entire Muso system then.

Muso+ (all-in one pre-power maybe plus streamer)

Muso CD player and ripper add on module

Muso SSD/HD add-on module

Muso specif P/S upgrade

Do I win a prize if I get all four correct?

A ripper/server/streamer/preamp - i.e. a 372 with a UnitiServe bolted on - oh and includes a new generation DAC. Bonkers I know but fits with the strapline and the CD mech and volume control some recon they have glimpsed. If it includes the new style vol control (a la Muso), it could only be used on the top shelf of a Fraim.

I bet I am soooo wrong.

The round orifice could well be for a CD-drive, so my hunch is a Statement-level version of HDX, with expanded networking, streaming, etc.  Would be nice if it worked well as a straight CD player--something HDX is not particularly good at, in my opinion.

The Naim range is arguably already too large and confusing, so if there are four new things coming, perhaps at least that many should be pensioned off.

The idea of a flexible thing is interesting - I remember an amplifier by Meridian in the early 80s where you could add little modules onto the side. I believe it was a disaster.

Probably jolly expensive as well ?

And no doubt it'll go up by at least 10% each year!

Ah yes the MCA. Clever idea but IIRC pretty costly to manufacture.

'Muso separates': a more mainstream consumer oriented (ie cheaper) range than 'marque separates'.

HDX would be pensioned off ?also some of the Uniti range

I envisage the market, and maybe even more importantly, the retailers for my totally speculative Muso range as being quite different to the 'black box' kit. A 'lifestyle' range!

I have a horrible feeling that they are now going to announce a £150k streamer and make me look really stupid...

Well the CAD drawing/X-ray graphics are pretty cool, the the video is a 'less is more' in teasing !

For sure an extension of the Muso line, but I don't think I see speakers in the unit, so a very clever move to get those folks more into the 'full' Naim lineup

Also potentially introducing a new box design as it looks to include the 'Muso' heat sink design aesthetic, - I don't think it will replace the black boxes per se, more different like the half sizes of the 'Qute'.  It will be interesting to see full specs on Thursday.

If that's what I'm beginning to think it is, they'll sell loads of it. I'm happy, because a wealthy Naim is happy us (not sure about grammar, though).

This would have been the case if Naim wasn't owned by an investment company. I'm afraid that the success of the Muso ends up in a bloke having a bigger appartment in London and another Bentley.

No doubt, but perhaps if the bloke is busy enjoying the new apartment and Bentley, he will less often breathe on Naim's neck to have bigger profits - or at least for some time, allowing them to also think about audio.

New casework generation, introduced in this instance by an all-in-one model.  That's my guess.  The casework is clearly Statement/Muso style, with etched perspex thingy on the front.  There's a USB port on the front, so something streaming-related.  The power supply under the volume control is too big for anything other than a power amp being involved - if it were a streamer or streaming preamp, my guess is there'd be a smaller supply on board.  Also the number and size of the large vertical caps visible in the cross section point away from preamp or streamer and towards power amp.

Probably entirely wrong, but that all sounds plausible to me.

UnitiServe-2?

Posted on: 03 October 2016 by Antonio1

my guess ,the ultimate integrated.

I think you might be onto something with the new casework style for Naim idea - good thinking there

To me, it looks like an all-in one streamer and amp that would drive external speakers. So like a Muso, but no speakers. The question is whether it may or may not have its own storage. With SS memory now so cheap and small, I'd be hoping for an internal TB ot two.

It does seem to have the Muso/Statement control wheel but more importantly it seems to have the familiar Muso heatsink on one side. It did occur to me that it could be a bridging product. A Muso-styled control point to replace US/NS01 products and show us that that the style replacement for Classic has been here for a while and we just didn't know it (i.e. Muso is the style cue for the higher end stuff too).

I did not see a toroidal transformer so it is either non a source (so again US/NS01 type) with a switchmode or at the other end of the scale and a Statement level product and we are not seeing the external PSU. Somehow the former seems more likely because having a better control point that is equally at home as the server for Muso and NDS levels streamers would be very welcome, expecially if it had a local interface good enough to do away with the need to en external monitor and keyboard and just work on its own.

As great as streaming is, and as simple as it is for many of us, it is lacking that product that would allow us to finally say "If I die, my significant other could set this up." With our current setups, I feel that if if any of us pass away, the hi-fi is going silent.
