ios 10 on six s plus, naim issue
Posted by: garyi on 07 October 2016
Hi everyone.
the Naim app on my iphone has historically been rock solid, but since IOS 10, I am having a number of issues.
1. I have to manually add my uniti, its not auto discovered
2. UPNP. When I click this input it goes to a little spinning wheel and thats all. I cannot get past this point.
I picked up my sons iphone 4s, and it runs flawlessly, so its something to do with my phone/ios 10
Anyone else seeing this?
Hi,
We've had no general issues reported and I've had no problems with my iPhone 6 Plus on iOS 10 and the Naim app so can you try closing the app (double click the home button, find the app in the list and swipe it up to close it), delete the app itself (touch and hold its icon til it starts to jiggle then touch the cross on the app icon), then do a reboot of the iPhone (hold down both the power and home buttons simultaneously until the white Apple logo appears), reinstall the app and then re-run the app.
Phil
Following that procedure appears to have cured it. Thanks Phil.

Not exactly the same but some similar issues since I have "upgraded" to IOS 10 on my iPad Air 2. Some latency problems like volume change, switching from Tidal to iRadio, discovery of iRadio stations as well as playing them. And sometimes app gives me notice that connection to streamer is lost. Btw, before IOS 10 everything has been proverbially rock solid.
Apart from the procedure kindly advised above, will updating iPad to 10.0.2 cure the issues?

It's not been reported externally (or seen by us) as being an issue so I would doubt that updating to 10.0.2 specifically would resolve that issue for you but there's no harm in updating your tablet anyway...

Just today the Naim app (iPhone and iPad) can't find my Mu-so - 'streamer not resonding'. Can't add it again since 'already connected'.
I deleted and replaced the app on both devices and that worked - until it happened again.
A workaround is to switch the iPhone or iPad onto my 5GHz network.
Any ideas welcome.
I see no-one has replied to this -too much excitement about the new models.
The fact that the workaround is to change onto the 5 GHz network suggests to me that your router is the problem. When you shift to 5GHz you force the router to give you a new connection. You may find that turning wifi off and on again on your apple device also works. Anyway it shouldn't be like that, so restarting the router is worth trying. Even if other services work, a router restart often fixes issues around discovery.

Thanks David, I'll give that a try.

Unfortunately this is the problem with tacking a new 'I have a problem' onto an existing forum thread where the problem is different and has already been resolved - it often just doesn't get seen that there is a new problem.
If anyone has an issue that they want our support on then please do contact us directly - the contact details are either in the sticky at the top of each forum or in the "About this site" bar on the right.
If you have the app installed on two devices and you minimize the app on one but have the "stay connected" option turned on then that app will stay connected to the streamer and you will get the message "Another app connected" rather than streamer not responding if you then run the app on the other but that is different to "Streamer not responding".
What router are you using? We have seen SuperHubs and HomeHubs dropping autodiscovery after a while (a reboot of the router usually cures that for a while) but your issue doesn't seem specifically like either of those.

Unfortunately I have similar problems as Garyi. The Naim app lost connection with my uniti2 several times and would not get reconnected even after I rebooted the uniti2. Such problem had not hapened before I upgraded my iPhone to 10.2 and then upgrade the Naim app.

So you've removed the Naim App from the device (not just closed it), done a reboot of the iOS device (not just powered it down and powered it up again) and reinstalled the app from the Appstore and it still doesn't work?
What router are you using?
We've not had any specific iOS 10.0.2 related issues reported (I'm running iOS 10.0.2 on several devices myself and don't have any issues) and if there were specific iOS 10.0.2 incompatibilities then we'd be having thousands of reports of problems which we're not so I think we need to be looking at your specific installation...

Router is a TP-Link (wireless off) running into an AirPort Extreme (wireless on). I've rebooted both and the problem has not reoccurred.
I've had similar problem in the past; In the application I had to type ip address of the streamer manually, otherwise those two (app and the streamer) couldn't find each other.
Since I have an external router and the switch, no problem at all with the connection.

If the router / wireless AP isn't supporting the propagation of autodiscovery at all (but otherwise the infrastructure is solid) then the "Add device manually" is there to get around that (although it would be better to have the router / AP properly support autodiscovery as it's such a common thing nowadays) but if the router is just randomly dropping autodiscovery traffic (or causing other issues) then it's better to try to identify and resolve the problem if possible without doing a manual add as otherwise you can end up with multiple instances of the same device being shown in the app and getting rather confusing...

i think Kacper is saying that he has had no more problems since he got an external router and a switch?.......

Yes - I was just pointing out what the "Add device manually" functionality is there for and that the two issues are different...

Thank you Phil for the reply. My router is Netgear WNDRmac. The disconnections I met just disappeared after some time, usually half an hour or so. I have already reboot the router and all seem OK right now. Next time if I face this problem again. I will try your suggestion.

that's correct..
Sadly mine has gone again. Scratching my head on this, its been rock solid for years never had an issue. As my sons 4s runs perfectly at the same time, I can only surmise there is an issue with IOS10 somewhere.
I am also investigating my network make up as I do seem to have a couple of UPNP servers running at once, although as I say its been this way since forever without issue.
Interestingly QuteControl on OSX works fine, its had issues for a number of years but the UPNP player works just fine. However my mac is connected to the network via ethernet. So I am going to have a check around the wifi see if its anything there.
You could try toggling the wifi on and off on your idevice, when you have a problem. That might put your lease on the wifi back as it should be.
Also when you have the issue where the idevice can't find your streamer, try rebooting your router, leaving everything else exactly as it is. My bet is that you will find the app on the idevice will then work fine.
