CD player connection
Posted by: Rjt36 on 09 October 2016
Hello,
Please could I have some views as to a suitably good cable to connect a Cyrus CD XT Signature to a Nac 272? Am I better to connect to the RCA input on the 272 or via the BNC input?
Any help much appreciated!
Try both and see what you prefer. Personally I'd use the digital output from the transport to make the most of the 272

Thanks James. I will use the digital RCA output from the CD transport but wasn't sure if I should connect to the digital RCA input on the 272 or the BNC input? I need to buy a cable in any case - but wasn't sure which terminations to get and indeed if there were any recommendations. Thanks ever so much.
To be honest, if it's a phono connector digital source it probably doesn't matter. However just like different Ethernet leads sound different, so do different SPDIF leads and plugs, so try a couple. Ideally you want to have 75 ohm caharacteristc impedance cable, but on a short run I say this isn't really that critical either for SQ in my experience... so experiment... there is no right or wrong answer ![]()

Ah i see - i thought you meant use the analogue outputs from the CD player (not that familiar with Cyrus gear) or Digital output. Cables - Mark Grant do a decent cable for around £30 (with various connector options). These are properly terminated, well made cables and excellent value.

Thank you both. It sounds as if it really doesn't matter too much if I use a RCA to BNC or RCA to RCA digital interconnect? And you pays your money and takes your choice! The Mark Grant cable seems good value......Has anyone any experience of Chord Shawline or Chord Epic? Thank you
I suppose it depends on how much you use value the Cyrus as a source. Is it your main source or just a secondary source (i presume you stream via the 272) ?. If it is the main source then worth playing about with some different cables (see if you can get your dealer to lend you a few) to see if the more expensive cables are worth the extra expense.

There is one advantage to a BNC connector - you cannot accidentally pull it out, as it's locked.
I know it's not much ![]()
