Quick Fraim chips question...

Hola muchachos
Are they solid or do they have a rubber / etc bottom?
They are all metal.
Thank you
I'm thinking now.. What are they made from?
If the metal base of the chips is an issue you could stick some self adhesive felt or rubber pads on them .
Don't know what the SQ consequences are though.
Pretty easy to try with and with out though.
I'm thinking that a pure metal solution might be best - I have no doubt that Naim HQ tried with and without rubber soles. Wondering what metal they are.

Is the type of metal an issue? Probably aluminium or stainless steel (austenitic or ferritic ?)
I expect it would be.
They do tend to rust if you get them wet. I don't think they're stainless, certainly not aluminium.
I think they are stainless. Even stainless will corrode.
It looks like they're the same material as used in the Fraim cups which fit in the shelves.
They are stainless steel - I can't recall which type exactly (I think it was posted on the forum some years back) but chosen for their performance qualities. As Clive says, they can get as little bit of discolouration in damp conditions but easily removed.
Indeed, the basic types of stainless can corrode. The chips do seem to corrode rather too readily. Cheap stuff. Perhaps it sounds better than the higher quality ss?

Ferritic stainless has a tendency to corrode (rust), Fe/Cr structure. Austenitic stainless Fe/Cr/Ni doesn't.
Generally speaking Ferritic is harder due to more often than not higher C content. Austenitic is tough and non magnetic:
Ferritic has magnetic tendencies.
Thanks Groovers - fascinating stuff :-)

This I know of Naim Chips because my (patented) Fraim Ball Retrieval System (tm), the top section of a 4/6 weight fast action trout rod with a 1cm dia neodymium magnet Araldited to the top ring, has a tendency to cling to the b*ggers when being deployed. This can be particularly irritating when, as tends to happen, one of those pesky little balls runs behind the rearmost chip on my Fraim. I am working on plans for an electromagnet to replace the neodymium job, with a handy on-off switch built into a cork handle. Keep an eye on my website for news, or sign up for notification by e-mail.

Best cease hosing the Fraim down every Sunday, then. And keep Peter Belt's dish of water well away.
