Naim SL2 grills
Posted by: Piotr1 on 14 October 2016
Where to buy them?
Who can help in this case?
I will be grateful for any informations.
regards,
Piotr
I guess the best people to ask would be TomTom Audio. They're the ones who managed to have SBL grilles made. Naim have none as far as I know. ![]()
Frank.
Naim might have some. I got a pair from my dealer a little while back, and they were available from Naim then. I think they were about £180 for a pair.
Thank you guys!
Unfortunately Naim do not have anymore.
I will ask TomTom but I am afraid that they wouldn't have also ....

let us know if you find a source... i'd be interested too... mine are still OK but it could be a good idea to have a spare pair

Mine too are looking ok for the moment but the Velcro contacts are forever leaving bits on the light carpet which displeases someone.
I seem to recall a post somewhere that suggested if enough people were interested then some could be custom made to original spec.
If I can find it I will re-post - I am sure there would be enough interest to make it feasible for someone with specialist knowledge or resource to consider

Naim Parts - Speaker accessories.
Believe these are to the original spec - ? There have been many posts before.... Perhaps Search isnt working.... ![]()

Actually, Ian, this is about SL2 grilles, which so far as I'm aware, Tom Tom don't supply - yet...
So it may be your reading that isn't working, rather than the search faculty. ![]()
maybe someone knows the name of the material (I mean technical name) of SL2 grills?
and where to buy this material?
open cell foam?
Mark from speakergrillsdotcouk was planning to produce SL2 grills but was having some technical difficulties the last time I emailed him about 6 months ago. He does do SBL and IBL replacements. Maybe be worth those that are interested in SL2 grills contacting him so he can gauge demand.

I found material called "Bulpren" and it looks very similar to original.
Bulpren is used in professional audio as sound transmissive material to make loudspeakers grills ...
Now have to find someone who is able to cut it to correct size ....
not so easy ....
I think anyone wishing SL2 grills should just let me know and I will take the speakers off of their hands, thus alleviating the problem !
I was collaborating with Mark a while back and provided a drawing. I haven't heard from him in quite a while. The grille incorporates some complex curves and is not easy to replicate, so maybe this has caused the stall. If Naim would be prepared to divulge the name of their original supplier, we'd be off to the races.

Perhaps you shouldn't have paid that visit.
What do you guys do to your grills to wear them out? Perhaps it's all that prog rock you play.
In my case, hot weather and hight humidity decayed the foam into black powder, over the course of seven or eight years. Fortunately I was able to buy a new set of grills from Naim before they ran out. Actually, the replacements were not quite as wide as the originals, but they fit just fine.

apparently they simply deteriorate over time. mine still look ok right now -- well, i hope...

I'm beginning to see the traces of black powder on the lower box top ledge, so a sign that my SL2 grilles are beginning to crumble. I have been told that if it gets really bad then stiff hairspray can act as a temporary "cure" . I'm not sure I would trust that though. I will keep them as is for as long as they hold together and then worry about replacements when the time comes.
Perhaps it's time for Naim and Tom Tom to liaise over good quality replacements.

I emailed him for DBL grills, but no reply...

I don't know exactly what "rule" i have broken, many times i saw members asking (suggesting) other forms of contact (mp) outside of the thread and never saw any kind of moderation.
I no longer wish to say anything ... really, is better to get out of here.
Try searching for speakergrills. Interesting website and he (Mark) claims to be able to supply most types. No personal experience myself as my lovely new grills for SBLs came from Tom Tom. Worth a look...

Hi Rui,
With huge respect to the staff at Naim, who sweat about this stuff so that we don't have to, this is only hi-fi. I'd miss your posts if you left.
Chris
Apologies, just realised he has already had a mention earlier in the thread.
Hair spray Richard? Really? Not needed any of that for over 20 years...
