How do I get iphone 6 + IOS10 to play over the Muso-Qb via Airplay?

Posted by: Foot tapper on 15 October 2016

A very basic question, I know, yet I'm missing something obvious.

The iphone 6 is using IOS10.  It also has the current Naim app on it, which is picking up the Muso-Qb perfectly as both are connected and recognised on the same wifi network.

Where I'm falling over is the use of Airplay.  Following the Naim App and instructions on the Naim website, I just cannot see how to select "Airplay" anymore from itunes.  There is something called Airplay mirroring, but this links the iphone to an Apple TV, not to the Mu-so Qb.

Can anyone help with finding & selecting Airplay when playing music from itunes?

Best regards from a rather backward FT

After another hour of searching for this "plug and play" functionality, it seems as though the Airplay option cannot be selected from any of the general settings or within the Music app on any of the Artist or album listings.  The only way I can find the Airplay option is to start playing the track, then to select the Muso Qb as the output device at that point.  This seems horribly clunky.  Surely there is a better way...

Hi Foot Tapper, the way you've described this is exactly the way I use this with my mu-so Qb when e.g. I want to see a youtube film,  I doubt if there is any other way...

Many regards, Michel

Thank you Michel,

Good to know that it is due to dreadful ergonomics and not my ineptitude.

Best regards, FT

Not clear to me from the above if you are aware of the control centre under iOS 10 having a slide over to another frame that should show all the detected Airplay audio capable devices on your network, ready for you to select. So slide up from the bottom edge of the screen to see the control centre frame that has the Airplay Mirroring option then slide that left to see the audio output options.

Having said that, I had two iOS devices that when updated to iOS 10 had great trouble latching on to any Airplay device for very long if at all. Occasionally they would show a tick mark as selected in control centre only to fall back to the device as soon as pressing play. Apple support persuaded me to do a full reset, having already tried a network reset, of the devices. I did this reluctantly as I knew I would lose all my settings, including authorisation codes and fingerprint recognition. But it certainly solved the problem on both devices and I have had no trouble since. They could not tell me what actually was causing the problem but did report it back to the Apple engineers - and Naim devices were referenced.

Settings -> General -> Reset

although it would be better named Unset as then you have to reset your settings. Best make sure you have a backup first.

Thanks noname. I spoke with Phil in the Naim room at the Indulgence show today.

Sideswipe is indeed the answer!

I was doing everything correctly but was not aware of the need to sideswipe the iPhone screen once the "Airplay Mirroring" option is displayed.

Issue resolved, though the ergonomics leave a little to be desired...
