MA Recordings

Thank you to my new friend, Fred B.  I have just discovered a new (to me) web site selling download files.  I am knocked out by the eponymous album by Sera una Noche.

For me, this music is stunningly and uniquely beautiful, beautifully performed and beautifully recorded.  This album is available in 16/44 and hires.  A few are in native DVD.  The catalogue is modest, and when you place an order, you wait patiently (maybe 1/2 hour in my case), but I think worthy of our support.

Todd Garfinkle is one of the most exceptional sound engineers in the country. The vast majority of his recordings are done on location in the countries where the musicians reside. The ambience of the place of recording is always present along the music. He used to play piano himself and you can hear him on three early recordings. "Further Attempts" is my favorite of his. These days he concentrates on running the label. I basically own the whole catalog, so if you have any questions about a particular disc I will be happy to help.

Haim, thank you.  Do you have favorites?

Charlie,

Feel free also to contact Todd, he is very helpful and knowledgable guy.

Hard to pick favorites since they are all very good,  but here are a few, very different from each other:

Further Attempts (free jazz)

The piano music of Alberto Ginastera (classical)

The splendour of A-Andalus (world music)

J.S. Bach Orgelbluchlein (choral, classical)

The Old Country (Balkan, world music)

L'Infidele - Eduardo Eguez  (lute, classical)

Salterio - Begon Olavide (Spain, world music)

Haim,

Thanks.  That gives me a starting point.  Todd seems to be very accommodating.

Good listening...
