What would you do?

Hi all, question if I may.

Im receiving a 2000 nac52 and a 2000 SC, as far as I know the SC Hasn't been serviced. Now the bit where I'm torn. I have a serviced 96 SC (1year ago). I must move one of them on, which one?

A little history on the boxes. They 2000 Naim originated from the USA many years ago, the SC was changed to 240v by an authorised naim dealer.

Im kinda ok to drop another $600/£300 for the service of the 2000 SC or am I just wasting money?

thanks in  advance

Steve

Does the 96 hum? If not I'd hang on to it.

Sorry text to talk not working

Very sorry for that fingers now. I'm not too worried about the 52 as I will get a full service on it at some stage. What I'm asking I guess, is the sonic differences between the 2 SC's. Was any production upgrade done over the 4 years? Etc

I would send the serial numbers to Naim and ask them.

Excellent idea Harry. Thank you

Presumably you could make your own comparison of the two SCs when you get the other one, but obviously that doesn't take any future service into account. What it would do, though, is allow you to compare the level of transformer hum between them, which might be a deal breaker for me if one or the other is particularly loud.

The hum of a transformer is something I can deal with to a point. My    Special order 2003 olive xps hums like crazy man but to my ears it's functions well, I A/B it to a xps2 and it came out on top, even the xps2 owner agreed. So yes I will take the hum into account but not a real deal breaker for me.

My thinking is a 2000 model is 4 years younger, it should have some kind of  synergy with the nac 52 while serviced SC should be able to get some good coin. But yet I'm still torn.

i know first world problem.

You could very likely sell a serviced 1996 one for £200 or more than an unserviced 2000 one. So sell the 1996 one and pay £300 to service the 2000 one. It will be more or less cost neutral, you will be happy with two 2000 boxes that will be exactly the same colour, and it's what to want to do anyway. So it's a win, win, win situation. Job done.
