Just wondered how they handle loudness and bass do these bottom out easily my friend has recently bought a supernait 2 and is looking at these but he does like to play loud ![]()
He likes the look and the reviews but is a bit concerned as to there loudness capability so i would welcome any advice from any owners of these.
Thanks guys
Gary
I realise this is not quite answering the question you are asking but Classic range Neats (ie the discontinued Elite SX) will pay dividends on the SN2 imo. Your mate may be able to get the Elites at a similar price as the Motive SX1s if he can find discontinued old stock. Elites are also marginally more efficient so (on paper) should go louder.
The caveat is that a CDX2/ NDX level source is required.

Thanks Chris i will ask him to have a look at that option are there any particular variants too look out for?
Gary
As far as I know there was only one variant of the Elite SX. I had their little brother, Petite SX, for a good long while (from the same range) and can confirm that this level of speaker is good with your friend's level of amp.

I had a pair of the Neat motive sx1's for a week long in home demo, just a few months ago. They were paired with my 272/250dr combo and I must say I was very impressed with them, and yes they do play loud, the bass almost sounds like you have a sub in the room. That demo has me very curious about what the higher up models will do,there is definitely a synergy with Naim electronics,I eventually returned them and kept the Taksim reference 3a's that I demoed next and now use,but could of easily been happy with the Neats, highly recommended.
I tried the original Motive 1 many years ago and they were awful, with totally uncontrollable bass. They should certainly be tried at home before buying.
I have a small room 3x4 m and I tried the Neat SX1 with SN2, they are very musical and have a very nice mid range. The catch is that they really have a lot of bass which maybe great but in bigger rooms. They excited my room way too much and I was forced to listen at very low levels to keep the bass under control. Eventually, I ended up with the SX2 which I think is a more balanced speaker
I too tried the SX1 and had same issue as Moussa and will end up with the SX2's as well , great speaker .
I can see how the bass could be a bit overwhelming in a smaller room, keep them well away from walls and they sound fantastic. In North America,I think we tend to like lots of bass, and for their size these little guys put out more than enough.A home demo is the best way to know if they work for you,in your environment,I liked them, but I do like bass.
I have the SX1 and with XS amplification (152/155/fcxs). As No Quarter says, they can go deep and it's almost like having a sub in the room. I think they sound great - amazing bass & mid-range and very detailed - but they are not suited to small rooms. I've tried them in our front room which measures about 3m x 4m and it's too much speaker for the space, but in my main listening room which measures approx 5.5m x 7m they go loud enough for me with controlled bass. They should sound even better on the end of a SN2.
When I get a bigger room, I will get the SX1 but I will still keep the SX2. Both are outstanding speakers in their space

,the bass almost sounds like you have a sub in the room.
...
That's because you have 2 subs in the room, in the lower parts of the speaker cabinet, one in each speaker. The SX1s have in-speaker integrated passive subs, hence the problem with exciting room resonances.

SX2's are mighty fine speakers. Don't be in a rush to replace them unnecessarily

Hi Gary
I know you areasking about Motive sx1's but I am lucky enough to have Neat KS1 proto_types which I am told sound similar to sx1s, I am over the moon with them and the way they sound combined with my Naim system, for the technically minded among you the crossover is a simple 1st/2nd order two-way network the crossover is 3.8khz, impendance is 4ohms, Sensitivity is 88dB/1watt, system 2-way bass reflex.
They sound great, look stunning in piano black finish and I love them.
Hi Davie never heard of Neat KS1 prototype are they available to buy yet ?
Gary
Sorry mate they are prototypes and are not going to be produced, they were made in conjunction with Neat and Kudos I belive and I have the only pair, I was told by Bob Surgner of Neat that they sound very much like sx1's I am trying to put pics of them on forum site under system pictures
So can they do loud or do they bottom out easily
Gary
You seem concerned with them bottoming out,the pair I demo'ed did not bottom out,and I played them up to volume 65 or 70 on my 272/250dr.The sound got a little strained at those volumes, but no bottoming out or "popping" of the woofer like I use to get with Dynaudio focus 160's and C1 mk11's.
I don't recall ever going past half way on the volume dial. Thats more than loud enough and they certainly dont bottom out at that volume (if I understand the term correctly). I'm sure they could do with more power than my 155 provides, so I would be very interested to hear how they sound on the end of a SN2 if your friend ever does try them out.
Excellent advice guys thanks so much
Gary
