SuperNait 2 Phono Inputs

Dear Forum

I've recently bought a new SN2, and I'm very happy with the improvements over my old 112x/150x.

I am however a little stumped on how best to connect my TT. I've read the manual and it looks like the Aux1 input is powered for a stage line or similar, and the Aux2 seems to just have a phono input rather than DIN.

I'm using a stage line powered by a flatcap, so don't need any power from the amp. I'm currently just using the Tuner input and whilst it's sounding fine (and by fine, I mean really great!), I'm not sure that this is the optimal connection.

Am I missing something re the Aux inputs? Can I still use the Aux1 despite the stageline already being powered? Or can I turn off the power going to the Aux1?

I've never found the Naim manuals the easiest things to follow, so would appreciate any help.

Best wishes, Nigel

Nigel, the Tuner input is as good as any other here - best via the DIN5.  As you say, AUX1 is only available on RCA Phono sockets and the AUX2 input is only for directly powering the Stageline, Prefix or Superline, otherwise should not be used (it's on a  240 degree DIN5 anyway, so only for SNAIC5 connection).

Thanks Richard - I'll leave things as they are and enjoy the music.

Cheers

Nigel, you may like to try powering the Stageline from the SN2 and see which you prefer, I tried a hicap when I was using a turntable with a Uniti and to me... and my dealer it was not as good. Have not tried again since I got the SN2, in fact it was this experiment that caused me to buy the SN2.

Hi Alfa4Life

I'll give it a try once I'm used to the sound of the SN2. It's only been a couple of weeks and today is the first day I'm home alone, so giving it and some vinyl a play at some proper volumes!

So far, it's been an improvement all round. Going to listen to some hi-res downloads next. Having a great day so far!

Richard ... perhaps you can explain why it SHOULD not be used.

I've been merrily using mine with a specially-made 240 DIN (signal pins only) to RCA cable (from a non-Naim phono stage) kindly made for me by those nice Chord Company people - on the basis that, having paid for six inputs, I'm gonna use em! :-)

SD, I guess if you've had a custom lead made up by Chord who know what they're doing then you should be fine.
