Hi folks
Back after quite a long absence from the forum. I've never taken streaming or similar at all seriously simply because the internet in our home is so appalling. Typically less than 1MB (sometimes nothing at all). It's a price paid for living in a fairly remote location. On the up side, my nearest neighbour is 500 yards away (when he's at home
). This means that I have remained faithful to vinyl. Very happy with this as vinyl was always a much preferred medium compared to say, CD. Have had a CDS2 and CDS3 in the past.
My system currently comprises a Well Tempered Versalex with Dyna 17D3, NAC52/52PS, NAP135s and a pair of Shahinian Obs. I have in excess of 1,000 CDs lying largely dormant, which is why I need enlightening. Another CD player, maybe a CDS2, which I liked and would continue the olive box look. Or is my knowledge of more modern sources so poor that I don't require decent internet? Perhaps I should just sell the CDs?
I'd really appreciate your thoughts.

IB - your initial point regarding my assumption is quite correct and reflects my knowledge of/ interest in all this 'modern and convenient' way of sourcing music. I always felt that this better reflected the ease and convenience demanded by younger generations, often compromising sound quality (and the quality of the music itself) to the point that was unacceptable to me.
That was very much the driver for me to post on this topic in the first place. I wanted to find out a little more before spending on a CD player. Your post, together with the numerous others before and since, have certainly opened my eyes to the possibilities and may have laid to rest certain prejudiced ideas that had been floating around in my head. Convenience isn't necessarily bad as I had previously thought.
And thanks Tony, for you summing up my new thinking on all this.

Well, after years of mulling it over and being told very definitively to MAKE A BLOODY DECISION, I've just ordered a CDX2/XPS. Best I could afford.
Still not sure it's the right decision, since I have some hi-res downloads, but there you go.
Frank.
