Another legend passes on... A great singer, songwriter and poet. Awful news.
From his Facebook page this evening: It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away.
We have lost one of music’s most revered and prolific visionaries.
A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date. The family requests privacy during their time of grief.
Very sad news.

"Hineni, hineni
I'm ready, my lord"

The lyrics from the latest album kind of show he knew the time was close… two more album still planned though, apparently.

Sad news…

Had to be in the right mood for his music, but at such times found his music so emotional and atmospheric, and really enjoyed especially when late at night.

Yet another icon gone. RIP Leonard.....and thanks

I was late to find Cohen, 'Ten New Songs' onwards, but have loved all this late work and his last album is really fantastic. He's had a good innings but is seems especially sad that he was making such excellent work so recently. His voice had become a thing of wonder.

Loved his wry humour and pathos. I think he'd as much claim to a Nobel prize for his lyrics as Dylan perhaps. My wife was a real fan too, and of course he was a real 'ladies man'. She's also Jewish so he ticked all the boxes!

His letter to Marianne a few months ago:

“Marianne it’s come to this time when we are really so old and our bodies are falling apart and I think I will follow you very soon. Know that I am so close behind you that if you stretch out your hand, I think you can reach mine.

“And you know that I’ve always loved you for your beauty and your wisdom, but I don’t need to say anything more about that because you know all about that. But now, I just want to wish you a very good journey. Goodbye old friend. Endless love, see you down the road.”

He toured a lot in fairly recent times because he old manager virtually bankrupted him!

He looked a sounded very frail in his press interviews for his last album. I remarkable man who made beautiful life affirming music.

RIP Leonard.

He was one of the first artists I got into when I started to listen to music around 1970 and has been part of the soundtrack of my life ...

... mortality is calling

... many of the contributors to my life's soundtrack have now gone

... RIP Leonard, I will miss you.

It is such a shame that I discovered him late. Last week to be precise and I was telling myself and wow a new album (and an amazing one) at age 82!

RIP.

R.I.P....82 though is not a bad innings. I'm sure he's gone wherever the good ones go knowing that he brought a lot of pleasure to a lot of people.

Very sad to wake up to the news that one of my very fav singer songwriters has passed away. The world has been left a better place thanks to Mr Cohen's legacy. I'll be giving my favourite album a spin later -  "I'm Your Man"

This New Yorker interview shows he was relatively at peace with his maker.

I'm sure he'll be singing with the angels.

I was ready, my lord...........

What a great loss. The great professor for great music and lyrics pass away. Another sad day in a modest year with huge steps into the direction of inhumanity, incredible greed and other sins.

Very sad to lose another music giant this year. I'd only just 'discovered' him too.

I have been listening to Leonard Cohen for over 25 years. Went to see him play at Birmingham in his last UK tour (2013?), I got the feeling there that it was his goodbye tour. It was one of the most memorable gigs I've been to. He had not lost anything, as his recent album proves. A gigantic loss.

I  too am saddened by the passing of Leonard Cohen. Not quite the soundtrack to my life as I first hooked into him at age 29. Didn't get to see him till many years later. His was best concert experience I have ever had in 2010 and fantastic again in 2013. I have been inspired by him and also expanded by his poetry/songs.

Another great loss to music. R.I.P Leonard

My very first experience of a 'stereo' system was walking into a record shop in the Scottish Highlands as a youngster in the late 60s, and hearing the track "Hey that's no way to say goodbye" from the 'Songs of" album. I was enjoying the track anyway, but I can still recall my astonishment when the female backing  vocalist's voice appeared as if by magic from the far left hand corner of the shop.

This was one of the first albums I bought when I was given my own first stereo system as a 15/16 year old, and I have loved his music ever since.

One of my big regrets is that I never did get to see him live.

Meant with the greatest respect, I wonder what songs will be played at his funeral ?
